Big Money in Food, Just Not for Minorities?
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I don't have to drive miles to get to my "neighborhood" grocery store. There is a store within a ten-minute walk, and both a Neighborhood and Super WalMart within a 1.5 mile radiusfrom my house. To add insult to injury, Super Target is coming to the block, adding to a plethora of choices in addition to my local, organic farmer's market. Being a newcomer to Tulsa, I am only just becoming familiar with its history and communities. I guess I'm trying to better understand why certain neighborhoods have it so significantly better than folks residing in other sections of the greater metropolitan Tulsa region. It has to be more than a question of supply and demand. There's definitely a demand. I just want to know why that demand hasn't been filled. Someone please explain this to me. ...read more
