We get hundreds of calls a month about crashed hard drives. A growing (as well as disturbing) trend lately is that people are calling us telling us that they moved their imporant data to their backup drive and now the backup drive has failed. First of all, if you are MOVING the data to a backup drive, it is not a backup. A backup is a SECOND copy of your data, not your ONLY copy. When you get an external drive, COPY your critical files to it. Never move files to a backup drive. If that drive fails and you neglected to leave a copy of your precious data, photos, music and other computer files on your computer as well then you're just switching one potential disaster for another.
