A crew from Compass Tree Care recently visited my home and took down a tree as well as cutting back broken branches off of two others. The price was a bit above market, but the offer of same-day service has been tough to locate this winter, so We made a deal. Despite the business card’s pledge of “complete cleanup and GREAT care”, I saw little of either from the Compass crew. The smoking and cursing I can tolerate – I’m a workingman myself – but after taking down the maple branch, three members of the crew proceeded to heave the logs across my yard like they were in some highlander-style competition. I recognize moving many plus-size logs isn’t easy, but these men gave no consideration to what might be harmed beneath the snow (landscaping, etc.), to say nothing of the obvious safety concern. The following day, I discovered the crew had basically worn muddy ditches where they had marched back yard to front and where the branches had been cut. The area just off the driveway near where their trailer was parked was littered with tree brush, the cutting areas were covered in leaves and small branches, and a large branch from the felled tree was was lying on a nearby rhododendron. The stump isn’t a clean or level cut. Simply put, I’ve had professional tree work done on multiple occasions in the past, and it was superior to Compass in every respect. Offer services to elderly and disabled that are then double charged, give word they will not deposit check until agreed upon date and time and then go cash the check at a slum spot which in turn places these elderly and disabled in severe financial hardship. Something needs to be done to stop their prey of the less fortunate and the elderly. ...read more

I'll start by saying I like Vin and the guys. I hired them to take down 4 Ash trees in my front yard and to treat and trim the remaining ash trees on the property. The job did not go smoothly to say the least. In the process of felling one of the trees they destroyed a Crab Apple I was planning to keep and damaged an Osage Orange. With the damage we elected to take both of those trees down as well. The biggest problem is another of the Ash trees fell sideways and did $1500 in damage to my driveway. Vin and Danny both promised me they would take care of the damage. I gave them 2 months to get their concrete crew out to fix the damage. After that I called my own contractor to look at the damage. When I received his estimate I called Vin. Marvin told me he would contact his insurance agent and I would hear back from him by the end of the week. This was over a month ago. He has since quit returning my calls. Hiring Heavenleigh Tree Care has turned out to be a $1500 mistake. ...read more
