How Net Branching Can Boost Small Lender Success
Since the housing bubble imploded beginning in 2006, many mortgage lending experts have noticed a big change in the real estate financing industry. The lenders seem to be under more scrutiny from regulatory agencies since what some perceived as loose lending practices led in part to the housing crises. Mortgage customers appear to be harder to deal with than they were in the past. Factors such as increased competition, advancing technology and an extremely educated buyer population tend to increase pressure on small mortgage companies and can strain their already stretched resources. Some small to mid-sized mortgage lenders that are currently going it alone are finding it tougher to compete with the larger corporations who wield financial and infrastructural leverage. One option for these underdog lenders comes in the form of net branching, or what some call a mortgage (MTG) branch opportunity. Linking Together For Support By becoming a part of a lending network, these smaller lenders can enjoy some of the competitive advantages that the larger mortgage companies have access to. Net branching makes teams of experts from all facets of the mortgage field available to network members. Instead of being bogged down with details in exacting areas like human resources, marketing and compliance, members of a mortgage lending network can shift the primary focus of their employees to closing loans. The attraction of net branching for many is increased capabilities in areas where there is less in-house expertise. Back to Basics When the burdensome tasks that are necessary to stay competitive can be offloaded to an upline of specialized teams of experienced professionals, it can result in the small lenders increasing productivity by concentrating on building personal relationships with their customers. In the current mortgage landscape, customers seem to expect advanced technology to streamline the loan process. Borrowers usually demand detailed information and options when shopping for housing loans. In addition, mortgage consumers also demand, more and more it seems, the personal relational touch that can usually best be offered by the small local mortgage lending office. In a sense, the small lender is able to realize the best of both worlds by affiliating with the right network. Most everyone probably agrees that outstanding personal service is one of the deciding factors that customers will cite for choosing a lender. Giving the required level of service to acquire customers, keep them and inspire them to refer more business to their mortgage lender is challenging enough. Add to this the tasks of keeping up with the regulations mortgage companies must adhere to, designing and executing effective marketing campaigns and overseeing the daily minutia of running a business, andnet branchingcan start to make sense. ...read more
