Top 5 student jobs in the UK

Student life in the UK is expensive and many students work part-time to provide their studies. It is also a great opportunity to meet new people, gain valuable experience and skills that will help in your future work as a specialist. Here are some of the most popular student jobs in the UK. Catering One of the most popular places for underworking is the catering sector. Cafes and restaurants often recruit people with little or no experience (the less experience we have, we don̢۪t have to wean an employee from bad habits) and teach them everything they need. The work schedule in such establishments is usually very flexible and sometimes allows you to visit large events for free: you can work as a bartender at a festival or as a waiter at a celebrity birthday party, whilereceiving a salaryand a line in a resume! Work in the university Working at your home university, you simultaneously earn money and can combine work with study. When you work with other students, you will feel that you can always ask someone to replace you and learn how to help others when they need it. Depending on what the university offers, you can find jobs in university kiosks, cafes, bars, gyms and libraries. Work as a writer You think even Steven Spielberg could jealous of your writing talant? Then you can try yourself in writing field. You can send you resume toEduBirdie, as a freelancer writer and help other students to create their academic papers. Also you can write a novel and send it to editorial departament in a large magazine. Work in clubs and bars Nightlife is an integral part of the UK student experience, clubs and pubs are always looking for part-time employees. Everyone will find suitable activities for themselves: working as a waiter, promoter or someone else. Such work has its own bonuses: you get to interesting places for free and even get a discount on drinks. Ideal for those who can not sit at home when the whole city goes out to have fun! Work on the sights Have you ever wanted to work in a theme park? And in the art gallery? On the London ferris wheel? Many students in Britain, especially those who study in London, choose to work in cafes, shops and ticket stalls on the territory of attractions. Often one large company deals with the selection of personnel for several cultural monuments, which means possible benefits for employees: free admission, discounts and invitations to visit outside the common hours. Attractions are usually located in the center of human concentration, so you will definitely gain experience in the very center of a vibrant, colorful city. Work as a brand manager This is another employment option within theuniversity, but this work can also be done online in your free time. Being a "student brand manager" or "brand representative" you will talk about the benefits of a popular brand and promote it among students. Everything depends on you. Income depends only on how much or little effort you put in. Usually payment grows on the number of orders received from "your" customers. like the other types of employment listed here, this work has several advantages, namely the ability to use the products of the brand that you are promoting + an attractive line in the resume. ...read more

"My Doctor Told Me I Was Fine"

I was at a recent networking event signing copies of my new book, "Own Your Journey.....to Optimal Hormone Balance," and a gal came up to me and said, "Oh, I don't need hormones." I asked her how she knew this. Her response, "My doctor ran tests and said so." Not wanting to be disagreeable, I simply smiled, but the truth is, she is most likely not fine. Just checking the box and listening to her doctor might be enough for her, but it doesn't work for me and it most certainly doesn't work for women over 35. Why 35? This is when our aging bodies begin to make less progesterone. Making less progesterone means we become estrogen dominant. The bad news here is that estrogen dominance raises the risk of breast cancer. The importance of progesterone can not be overstated. Progesterone has several major tasks in our bodies: -helps us sleep -helps depression -reduces anxiety -improves our moodiness and irritability -alleviates aches and pains - stops sugar cravings -balances estrogen to reduce the risk of breast cancer   This gal was about my age or older, so I assume she is post-menopausal, which means she now also doesn't produce enough estrogen. Estrogen for what? For the 300 jobs it performs in the body, not the least of which is protecting the heart from heart disease and protecting the brain from dementia. So now she doesn't have the progesterone or the estrogen she needs. So she is ripe for disease. And let's talk testosterone. Testosterone also depletes with age, so by age 50, we have about half of what we used to. Testosterone helps build new bone by signaling the osteoblasts to build new bone. It also helps energy, memory recall and libido. This is why so many older people develop osteoporosis. Instead of using testosterone supplementation, they are told by their healthcare practitioners to drink milk or take calcium, or even worse, to take one of the big pharma bone drugs on the market. Google any of the side effects of these "bone building" drugs and I hope you decide not to take them. They do have an effect on the body, but building good strong bone is not one of them. We, at our Happy Hormone Cottage, are all about fixing the cause of the problem. Refilling our hormone tanks with customized bioidentical hormone replacement therapy fixes the problem.   Let's talk about the tests her doctor most likely ran. If s/he is checking hormones in blood, they have already been depleted by the heart and the ranges are so big, one would have to be dead to be out of range. This is why we do not use blood work to check sex hormone levels or cortisol. (Thyroid levels? Yes we use blood work in our 11 point thyroid panel.) There are just so many better ways available to do this. So if he is not running informative lab work, how valuable is his assessment? The bottom line is, this gal is not informed on the importance of refilling her hormone tanks and her doctor also can't advise her because he hasn't read the latest studies and information. Why not? It is not part of the big pharmaceutical agenda, which is selling drugs for the masses. Our truth, substantiated by studies (go to www.happyhormonecottage.com/Resources/Reading) is that, as Dr. Prudence Hall says, "Hormones are to women what water is to plants." We MUST refill our hormone tanks to go the distance and live a high quality of life as we age. This just makes sense!   So what to do to spread the word on this important topic? Continue to walk our walk of women helping women by offering consultations to educate women on the importance of refilling our hormone receptors; continuing to build awareness in natural hormone balance and encouraging women to think for themselves and to become educated and empowered in knowing what is best for their bodies; by giving back to our community through our Foundation (the Women's Health Initiatives Foundation) whose mission is preventing breast cancer; and continuing to positively impact the lives of the women in our community and beyond. Ours is a grassroots movement where real change is occurring.  I'm proud of how far we have come! ...read more

Men Only: BioMale Preventative Healthcare Center

Bio-Male to Offer Preventative Healthcare for the 21st Century Man Bio-Male Center, the first preventative healthcare center “for men only” in central and southwest Ohio, will open in West Chester on Tuesday, March 17. Working out, vitamin and mineral supplementation and testing and treatment to optimize male hormones will be the focus of long term health strategies at Bio-Male.   “We want to treat the whole person biologically, helping men manage insulin, cortisol and thyroid levels,” said Bio-Male owner Jeff Hogrefe. Hogrefe is a pharmacist with an advanced degree in functional medicine. He also owns the Piqua Compounding Pharmacy in Piqua, Ohio. Jeff Hogrefe, founder of this first preventative health center for men in our region, is the husband of Lyn Hogrefe, founder of the Happy Hormone Cottage.   “Our bodies are complex and dynamic systems,” he said. “Drug therapy tends to disrupt normal functions to treat symptoms of disease, and symptoms develop long after disease is present. Fifty percent of men who have fatal heart attacks have normal cholesterol levels. This is not acceptable. Our men will be tested on more than 60 meaningful parameters that can identify cardiovascular risks at early stages. Our goal is to identify risks and develop lifestyle and nutritional strategies to modify these risks.” Cardiovascular labs will also be conducted to identify a man’s risk for stroke or heart attack based on extensive bloodwork because standard lipid profiles fail to adequately identify cardiac risk, said Hogrefe. A male nurse practitioner will perform testing and personal training services will be available. Hogrefe said three often overlooked hormones in the body are cortisol, insulin, and thyroid. Most men do not usually have these hormones tested and addressed, yet they have a great impact on men’s overall health, he added.   “We will do comprehensive testing on these hormones,” said Hogrefe, “because there is a significant link between low thyroid and heart disease, depression, and metabolic syndrome. Identifying and managing high insulin levels and insulin resistance is critical for the prevention of diabetes and all the long-term, damaging effects to the body that occur. Cortisol is the hormone of stress and has dramatic effects on testosterone levels, body fat composition, sex drive, energy, and sleep patterns.” Other hormones Bio-Male will address are testosterone and DHEA. DHEA levels decline in men as they age, leading to decreases in mood, energy and memory. Falling testosterone levels lead to declines in mood, sex drive, muscle size and strength, and bone development. "In keeping with our core values of mimicking normal human biology, dosing of hormones will be based on physiological dosing-- exactly the amount each body needs based on lab testing and symptoms,” said Hogrefe. "If you are coming to us for a testosterone fix, we are not the place for you.”   If low testosterone is treated in a vacuum, without addressing the whole body, and supra-physiological dosing, or more than the body needs, is used, men suffer more negative health consequences, said Hogrefe. “We know this from treating hormone imbalances in women for the past 12 years,” he said. “You have to address the major hormones in the body—not just one-- to have success with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.” Supplements and other prescriptions at Bio-Male will be additional charges, but Hogrefe said his goal is to offer the best and most affordable options. “Healthcare should be consumer driven,” said Hogrefe. “I want our members to feel like this is a great value and a great service. We do expect our guys to have health insurance, as the labs that we use will want to bill for services.”   Hogrefe said he has negotiated with labs to keep billing costs low so there are no out-of-pocket charges to members. “Philosophically, I think that this is important,” he said. “Healthcare costs have gotten extremely expensive and we should all be doing our part to reign costs in.”   A Bio-Male initiation fee will cost $350, plus a monthly fee for as long as a man stays in the program. Fees cover extensive lab testing worth several thousand dollars two to three times per year; an initial, hour-long consultation and two, follow-up, 30-minute consults; direct email access to staff for questions; and a comprehensive, individualized healthcare strategy.   “We hope to include testosterone therapy as part of the package eventually,” said Hogrefe, “but there are conflicting laws that need to be ironed out by state and federal regulators before we can fully commit to that.” Hogrefe is married to Lyn Hogrefe, CEO of Happy Hormone Cottage (HHC), which has offices in Mason, Crestview Hills, Ky., Kettering, Vandalia and Piqua. HHC tests and treats women for hormone imbalances with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and strategies that include exercise, diet and supplementation.   The Hogrefes are advocates of functional, or preventative medicine, which focuses on testing to determine the cause of disease, then working with clients to prevent it. Bio-Male is located at 7908 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Suite J, in the West Chester Professional Office Complex near Cincinnati Dayton and Tylersville roads. Men are free to stop in any time to sign up, ask questions and meet the staff. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception is planned for April. For more information or to make an appointment, go to www.cincinnatiwellnesscenter.com or call 888-418-2037. ...read more
