Upon booking the room for my employees who were going to build a restaurant in the area I stopped in to meet the management. Jeremiah seemed nice enough so I paid for the room for a month. The first night my employees were harassed by another guest stating if they wanted to smoke they needed to go INSIDE ( they were in a non-smoking room as not all of them smoked. The other guest threatened to call the police if they did not go inside. the second night one of my employees was talking on his cell phone while walking down the hall and the management yelled at them and said to go into their room to talk on the phone. 2 nights later one of my employees went outside for a cigarette and one employee stayed in the room, they used the latch on the door to the room to hold the door open. The management stormed into the room and started yelling at them. They immediately called me and I spoke to the manager. She YELLED at me and said she had every right to enter the room even when it was occupied. My employees moved out due to the harassment after 1 week- the management will not refund any monies due. When I called the management to discuss I would be put on hold for long times and when I was finally able to leave messages ( 5) I got no return call. I finally got in touch with Jeremiah and he told me not to expect a refund as my employees broke hotel policy. He then told me if I called the hotel again he would consider it harassment and call the police. RUN, do not walk from this hotel. Rude staff, rude management, and basic thieves. I have been in touch with the corporate office and they are trying to get this resolved but they are about as organized and professional as the staff at this terrible hotel. ...read more

Simple Things You Can Do For Earth Day

April 2013   On April 22, we will all come together and celebrate Earth Day.  On this day it is typical that you will see a lot of students from elementary to high school taking part in a project or task that will help with our environment.  This year, SmarTravel wanted to also give some helpful tips that anyone can do to help on Earth Day.   -Save energy and swap out your light bulbs!  Changing out your current light bulbs for compact florescent bulbs will help you use less energy and will also cut down on heat because these bulbs do not produce as much heat as your typical bulbs do.    -Hang drying your clothes on a warm day!  Cutting back and not using your dryer to dry every piece of clothing you own, will help save on energy bills and will also give your clothes that fresh outdoor smell to them!   -Use a reusable water bottle.  Instead of going to the refrigerator and grabbing a new bottle every time you would like something to drink, take a reusable water bottle with you.  This will help cut down on plastic waste.   -Stop using plastic&paper; grocery bags.  Reminding yourself to take your reusable grocery bags to the store with you will help cut down on plastic and paper waste.  If you constantly forget to take them with you, place a few in the trunk of your car for the next time you go to the store.   -Less paper, the better.  Going online and opting for your statements and bills to be through email or an electronic version will help cut down the amount of paper that a company uses and will save you from throwing it away once you receive it.   We hope these 5 simple things you can do for Earth Day will come in handy not only this month, but for the rest of the year!  Don’t forget every little bit helps!  ...read more

SmarTravel A Year In Review 2012

Our company had a lot going on in 2012!  Let’s take a moment to go back through everything we accomplished this past year:President and owner, David Wise, and his marketing team came up with a “Charity of the Month” at the beginning of 2012.  This program was designed to choose a charity or organization and dedicate that month to them.  Our SmarTravel employees volunteered, donated money, supplies, and wore pins to recognize many of the different organizations that we chose to assist each month.  Many of those organizations included:  Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House of Charities, The Salvation Army of Indiana, The Leukemia&Lymphoma; Society, American Heart Association and many more. We look forward to doing the same program in 2013!Back in March 2012, our Cincinnati location got to meet the winners of the 2011 Grand Prize Drawing of $50,000 cash or a brand new car valued up to $70,000 MSRP.  It was a great experience for our team because they got to see how happy they made Brittany&Shylo McKinsey when they received their check for $50,000 and they got to see where their hard work goes to.  Congrats again to Brittany & Shylo, we hope you are enjoying your prize and can’t wait to see 2012’s winners when they are announced February 2013!In 2012, our social media for SmarTravel took off!  We not only started adding more to our Facebook page, but we also added in Twitter, Google +, LinkedIn, Tumblr, YouTube, Flickr, and many more.  We are happy to see the outcome of our followers and are glad so many of you enjoy reading our blogs, viewing our pictures, and commenting on our results.  Thank you to all of you! This past year, some of our employees got to travel to Ruskin, FL, Las Vegas, NV, Baltimore MD, and Philidelphia, PA for either an incentive trip or a training meeting.  These employees enjoyed their trip(s) and learned a lot about SmarTravel and what they can do to be better employees and become a closer team. Finally, to end our year, we had our annual Holiday Party.  The party was held at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Indianapolis, and consisted of dinner and an awards ceremony.  The ceremony is for our Sales and Marketing Departments to recognize our employees.  We had many awards to give out this past year and all of our employees had a great time coming together for the night. We posted our pictures on our social media sites, so please make sure to check them out. This year was another great year for our Indianapolis location!  We had many events that took place throughout the year with some great partnerships that we continue to have for 2013.  To everyone, thank you very much for a great 2012! We look forward to what 2013 has in store for us! ...read more

Employees “Doing The Most Good” This Holiday Season

The holiday season is the best time to do the most good considering there are many in need or in a financial bind around this time.  Our team is taking the initiative to work with the Salvation Army this month to help them with one of their most helpful programs, the Christmas City Toy Shop.  Five of our SmarTravel employees spent their morning helping setup the Christmas City Toy Shop at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on December 18th, 2012.  “Knowing that we are helping children enjoy this Christmas by having something for them to open under the tree is very humbling.” Laura Mann said.  The Christmas City Toy Shop program is for those that applied to use the program, eligible, and are invited by the Salvation Army to the toy shop to pick out new gifts for their child.  This will be the third event in 2012 that SmarTravel has worked with the Salvation Army of the Indiana Division.  “We hope to continue working with the Salvation Army, they are all very pleasant to work with and very helpful.”  Erica Anderson added. From all of us at SmarTravel, we wish you the best holiday season and a great new year!  See you in 2013! ...read more
