I love, love, love working out at Pole Kittens! I've been working out for 25 years and this is the best work out, by far! Victoria and the other instructors have continually challenged me for 4 years and I don't plan on that changing, any time, soon! Victoria, the owner, saw that I was taking the classes for the athleticism and challenge of learning new skills and stunts, so she encouraged me to get my own pole and even told me where I could buy one. I was suprised to hear the one reviewer say that V chastized her for having her own pole and/or trying to learn new stunts on her own. I've never been discouraged nor have I ever heard V discourage anyone else from buying a pole, much less work on learning new moves. In fact, V told me how to find good videos for learning new pole stunts. I have heard ALL instructors correct students when we are doing something incorrectly and especially if we are doing something that could cause us to get hurt. Which, quite honestly, is 1 of the 2 reasons I continue to pay for classes. The other reason is that I know that they know what they are doing and they are able to teach these skills to others as well. And, yes, I have tried 1 other pole studio in Cincinnati, when a friend won a free class but she didn't want to go, alone. And from my 1 time there was reminded of the old saying...If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And, at Pole Kittens, it's not broke and thanks to the instructors, neither are any of my bones :-) ...read more

I have been with PoleKittens for over a year and love, love, love this studio. The instructors are amazing and very well trained. The owner is very supportive of all the Polekittens no matter what level of skill you are at. Polekittens allows you to move at your own pace and that is something I really like. I actually have a pole at my house and am encouraged by the instructors and the owner to advance my skills at home. I have never once been chastised from anyone at PoleKittens for practicing at home or learning new things from youtube or even a pole magazine. In fact, it's jus the opposite. I am constantly wanting to learn new and more advanced moves....and when I bring those moves in....they work with me to make sure I accomplish my goals. However, if I am not ready for a move, then I think they have the right to tell me I am not ready for that move. Safety is always a first and I have to say a MUST when dealing with the pole!!!! I love this place and I hope you will give it a try! ...read more

Having taken lessons at other pole studios, I can vouch for the fact that Pole Kittens is the real deal. The instructors are approachable and friendly and the atmosphere unintimidating. Most importantly, the instructors have been training for years and are well suited to teach the pole-curious novice to the most advanced dancers. They emphasize safety above all, which is perhaps why the other reviewer had such a negative experience. It's called liability...If you are not strong in preliminary tricks, obviously, for your safety and that of the business, they aren't going to let you do them in-studio. That's just common sense. I have been dancing at Pole Kittens for a year and NEVER encountered that or any of the other issues the other reviewer noted. The best part about Pole Kittens as opposed to other experiences I've had is that you can move at your own pace. The instructors do not rush you through learning and class sizes are small so you get a great deal of individual attention. The class schedules are constantly being revamped, adding fresh, exciting opportunities to learn. I've excelled in my pole training and made tons of new friends in the process. I would recommend Pole Kittens to anyone looking for a fun way to get fit, learn or advance her skills, and to express and challenge herself. I've tried the rest....and there's no place like Pole Kittens! ...read more

Be careful if you go to this studio. You must do everything exactly the way that they tell you it should be done or they will kick you out and not let you come back. This could happen even after you've invested 5 months worth of time and money into their business. If you learn something by yourself (say you have your own pole), except to be chastised for it. Some of the ways they teach you to get into tricks are arbitrarily complicated, but you wouldn't know that unless you experienced other studios or instructors. And if you happen to experience other studios, expect to be kicked out. Most of the instructors are nice ladies, and deserve such credit, but the owner can be very cold in demeanor. ...read more

Although this website says they are in cincinnati, they area actually in Columbus. However, after purchasing my shoes from them, I can understand why people go up from Cincinnati. When to Start Your Kids in Dance By George Pornaras

When to Start Your Kids in Dance Given that parents often struggle to find fun things for their children to do that are both active and nourishing of their minds, dance is an ideal kid's activity. Although toddlers are too young to attend dance classes in studios that focus on traditional dance, plenty of studios welcome toddlers as young as 6 months old.Benefits Both Body and MindDance classes help children's motor skills, strength, flexibility, memory, creativity, confidence, discipline and social skills. Starting a child in dance classes at 6 months to 4 years old is ideal since their minds are developing and absorbing such a large amount of knowledge at this early stage. Their dance vocabulary will translate into better coordination of their muscles as they learn dance movements like plié and petit battement. Dance classes also give youngsters the opportunity to express their various energies creatively. Movement is what little kids need to express themselves energetically. Children’s inner natures crave movement, and dance class is an ideal venue for them to express that desire. If you start your young child or toddler out at a dance studio, you will often be required to accompany her during the dance lessons. When your child progresses to the stage where she can dance without your physical support, you can stand aside and observe the class in the periphery if you wish to note the progress.Casual Socialization SkillsThe earlier kids of opposite genders start interacting with each other without self-consciousness, the better it will be for them socially later in life. Kids at an early age have no expectations of what dance should be like. It’s a small tragedy when you see junior high students awkwardly dancing with each other while attending their first dance. If they learn young that a dance is just another opportunity to socialize with their friends of both genders, then they will probably be less inhibited about social functions when they are young teens. Dance classes are an excellent way for kids to socialize in a non-competitive way.Age RequirementsLearning dance movements early in life can be building blocks for ballet, acrobatics, and other creative movement later. Unlike dance classes that focus on dance as creative movement (e.g., less formal classes like letting toddlers simply move their bodies to a beat), more formal dance studios, such as those that teach pre-ballet and tap classes only take students starting at the age of three or four. The more formal the dance studio, the quicker they will expect the children to be able to dance independently of their parents. Some of the more serious dance studios have a requirement that the child must be able to stay in the dance room without a parent and without any crying or other displays of dissatisfactionAny Age is the Right AgeThere really is only one best age to start to dance, and that is when there is willingness in the child to attend class, socialize with other kids, and learn. If you want your children to eventually attend dance class, attend to the cues that they are ready (like noticing an ability for focused attention and exercise) to make sure that their transition to a formal dance class is a success. ...read more

Pepsi Revamps Giving Contest

Pepsi Revamps Giving Contest in Bid to Reward Small Groups January 31, 2011,10:10 am PepsiCo is reorganizing its year-old, $20-million Pepsi Refresh charity competition, with several changes geared toward steering more of the prize money toward community and grass-roots organizations, according toThe Wall Street Journal. The beverage giant will eliminate the top $250,000 award in its monthly contest, which allocates grants based on online voting; increase the number of $50,000 grants; reduce from 10 to five the number of causes voters can select each day; and drop the environmental and health categories, which attracted alliances of groups that dominated the balloting. The company says the changes are designed to infuse greater democracy into the selection process, which has been marred byallegations of vote-rigging and manipulation. While drawing tens of millions of votes and extensive media coverage, Pepsi Refresh has yet to translate into bigger business for the company, which saw sales slip 9.8 percent in the first three-quarters of 2010.Pepsi's bet on the charity contest as a major marketing and promotion tool is reflected by the firm's absence from last year's Super Bowl, marking the first time in 23 years the company eschewed advertising during the football championship, writesThe New York Times. ...read more
