Charlie's Three-Quarters House

5.0

By gratefulman

After many months of trying to figure out what was happening to me and drinking I finally lost everything: Executive job, my wife and child. I knew nothing of sobriety and available help. Someone recommended Charlie's. Thank God for Charlie's. I was welcomed to the Charlie’s family. No apartments were available, so I slept in the TV room where smoking appeared to be encouraged. I went right to bed and slept through to morning. That would 5:AM in Charlie’s world. I awoke to residents standing around me unable to speak from the smoke fog and felt like I was in prison with tattooed gang members approaching me. One guy had a tattoo on him eyelids. Not something I typically see or people I would associate with. That lasted only briefly as they told me that I was the most important person here and instantly brought the fellowship. I felt saved. And that feeling has never gone away. Still. I never thought I would have something so core to who we are with those recently released from prison, those whom were actually living under bridges in the dead of winter, have had their tenth OVI or have been in and out of recovery for many years. Many in recovery are addicted to drugs like heroin, pain pills, crack cocaine, etc., in addition to alcohol. But at the root of it all is the alcoholic mind. The allergy. The progressive disease that, left untreated, will wither your mind and body. We only have three choices with this disease: A. manage it, B. go to jail, or C. die. That’s it. I’ve seen a lot all three while in recovery, all of which keep me on plan A. Fellowship and accountability are the magic. ...read more

By JennK511 at Citysearch

Cincinnati Flood Squad was hired for water damage cleaning in my commercial building when it flooded from the water main brake. We had flood damage on 2 floors and wet carpet in the lobby. They were able to dry the wet hardwood floor and keep the wet carpet from having serious water damage in 48 hours. They got us back operating with little down time. I made a good choice using this flood damage restoration service in Cincinnati OH. ...read more

What Is Going On In America???

I just don't get it; the media tells people there is an "economic crisis", and everyone stops spending money.  Have people forgotten how to think for themselves?  It seems like americans are more generally trend oriented than we are independent thinkers, even when it comes to our beliefs.  Everyone just does what the person next to them is doing, which causes an ugly circle of fashion, intellectual, and economic slavery to whatever the current newspaper headline is. People have made benevolence, brotherly love, compassion for humanity and the golden rule a thing of the past.  These days it's all about stock portfolios, big bank accounts and storing up treasure for one's self, forget everybody else.  This is NOT how mankind's existence was intended to function when we were created; but since we have chosen this path with our own God-given freewill, as long as we keep it up we will continue to fall further & further into spiritual reprobation, with an inherent ending that will destroy whatever's left in the aftermath of man's futile struggle to gain personal wealth. People need to remember the morals & standards their grandparents had.  Next time you see that homeless person on the street,GIVE HIM A DOLLAR!!  Don't cry to me about how tough times are; you don't know tough times until you have worn HIS shoes!  But, it looks like that is the shoes a lot of us are being fitted for.  Since we have neglected and looked down on the poor for so long, a lot of us are becoming the poor.  It's a biblical principal, like gravity (like it or not) "...God is not mocked; a man shall reap that which he sows" (Galatians 6:7).  And that's not the only scripture to back this principle up;  "...he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, but he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully." (2nd Corinthians 9:6) and "...give and it shall be given unto you...whatsoever measure you use, the same shall be measured back to you." (Luke 6:38) etc..., etc..., etc...., etc...!! America doesn't listen to the Bible anymore though, or we would be practicing what it says!  The mojority of people just play church on Sundays and they live for the devil the rest of the week.  There will be lot of people shouting "Amen" all the way to hell!! If people really believed what the Bible says, they would NEVER worry about money, terrorists, wars or anything else for that matter; but the truth is, when mankind loses their faith in God, we lose our hope for a meaningful existence.  This is the state of our union, and it's only going to get worse.  Cry out to Jesus today, before it's to late to do so.  "...and, behold, I come quickly; and my rewardis with me, to give every man according to his work... I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." (Revelation 22:12-13) ...read more
