I am sad to read about this dog who met a violent death at the hand of its owner, and for the owner who felt that he had no other choice but to do so. However, I do not believe that the events described, occurred at Burton Veterinary Clinic. I have talked to our veterinarians and staff, and no one recalls sending a bleeding, suffering animal out of our clinic due to the owner not being able to afford a humane euthanasia. Our staff and veterinarians work to the point of physical and emotional exhaustion to take care of our clients' pets, as well as sick pets we've never seen and many who are turned away from their own vet. Christine, perhaps you are thinking of a different clinic? There is no charge for euthanizing a pet at Burton Vet Clinic that would total $350. Even with the choice of getting him cremated & his ashes returned and certainly not a burial. (Call for a quote if you need reassurance) BVC is a compassionate clinic, every member of the staff has shed countless tears over the loss of other peoples' pets and some of the staff have even paid expenses out of their own pockets to help people who couldn't truly afford something! And to be blunt, nobody can force anyone to do what your friend did. There are many months I only bring home $900 and I can tell you I would never take any of MY babies out back & shoot them. I trust my kids in all the dr's & staff's hands there and have talked to many other clients who would never go elsewhere due to the love they get for their pets at this clinic. ...read more

A man living on 850.00 a month brought his 8yr. old lab to the Burton clinic after the dog had been severally mauled while on its own property. After examining the dog and taking x-rays ($250.), it was determined his beloved dog could not be saved. The charge is understandable. What happened next is not. He was told it would cost him $350.00 to humanly euthanize his baby. Because he could not afford this fee he was forced to take his dog home, dig her grave and shoot her to end the horrible pain she was in. Could you imagine doing this to your best friend?
