I have observed unacceptable hygiene and food safety by their deli workers multiple times. The cutting counter surfaces and slicers are visibly filthy. The young employees in the deli seem to have NO training in food safety or personal hygiene. Most of the cashiers are lazy and rude. They often refuse to bag for themselves and make the customer wait until a bag-boy arrives, even if it would have been faster for them to do it themselves. There are so many kids 'working' there, but rarely do they actually appear to be doing any work. Mostly they are standing around gossipping or talking trash about customers. I would assume this is a reflection of poor management. Whoever wrote the review entitled "A Friendly, helpful Staff" obviously works there. We have 2 dollar stores in Trumansburg, very close to one another, but they are very different. I prefer the Dollar General. They have a ton of merchandise, the employees will go out of their way to help you, they are open long hours and the prices are excellent. Sometimes I call to see if they have specific items before I drive out there and they are always so patient and knowledgeable on the phone. It is worth the time to look all around the store as there are so many gems. The fruit and produce are always fresh. There is an excellent butcher who, if you can't find what you want at the meat counter, will cut to order. There is a wide selection of foods, notions, and other sundry items. I am a summer resident and rarely bring foods from home, relying instead on the T-Burg Shursave. ...read more
