Ticonderoga is located in Essex County, New York known for its bass fishing and other water sports on Lake Champlain and Lake George. Major attractions include Fort Ticonderoga, built by the French between 1754-57 during the French and Indian War, and Mount Defiance, a 858 foot hill overlooking the Fort and Lake Champlain, from which the British routed American troops during a famous battle in the Revolutionary War. Each year in the bass season (usually in June) there are bass tournaments on Lake Champlain. The biggest companies in Ticonderoga are International Paper Company, and Wal-Mart. The biggest schools here are the Ticonderoga campus of North Country Community College and Ticonderoga Senior High School. One of the best places to visit when you are in Ticonderoga is the Ticonderoga Heritage Museum. Famous persons from Ticonderoga include James Cawley, who played the roll of Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Phase II (fan series).
