At Montemaggi Law, we are honored to represent disabled people in need. However, we would prefer that you do your best to avoid injury. So often as lawyers we only get to communicate with people after they are injured. So, I thought I would take a moment to share some common sense things that everyone can do in daily life or at work to avoid injuries. Below are some suggestions on how to avoid common problems that can lead to injuries. Always be aware of your surroundings and watch out for dangerous conditions. Learn proper lifting techniques and ask for help when needed. Make sure your workstation is ‘ergonomic’ or designed to avoid injury. Wear the correct protective clothing, especially hearing, eye and head protection. Be aware of your posture and the way you do things. Often, injuries can be avoided by doing something in a slightly different way. If you are operating machinery, make sure that any protective guards or other devices that are supposed to be used with the machine are in place and working properly. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are probably the best ways to avoid injury. Being healthy in general makes injuries much less likely. Regular rest from repetitive activities, including rest away from a machine or tool with which you may be working, can avoid repetitive motion injuries. However, adequate sleep and rest in general is also extremely important. If you are tired, it is far more likely that you will suffer an injury.
