Working as a freelancer offers me many advantages, especially for the flexibility of the model. I can choose the hours I want to do at any time, the projects I want to work on and it is usually customary to be able to work from home, doing teleworking. This is the ideal picture, the one that we all have before launching ourselves to this activity. What is like to “be a freelancer"? Today the term "freelance" is widely used and, at the same time, mistreated. Many people think that it is one thing, when in fact it is another. Being a freelancer means to be a self-employed person who works for themselves and whose main activity is to provide services to third parties in exchange for financial compensation. In ordinary words, a freelancer is someone who "has no boss", is their own company and offers services or products to third parties. What is "freelance work"? It refers to the job done by specific collaborators who do a concise type of job. For example: When people need some kind of specific design, they hire me and ask for a punctual job in exchange for an X price. If I need to improve the SEO of my blog, I talk to a specialist in search engine rankings, and ask for a timely job. These are examples of "freelance jobs". They are professionals who have their own company, work for many clients and who only have contact with them in a timely manner. Nowadays I see many people launching themselves to develop a professional activity as Freelancers and trying to survive in a very turbulent environment. However, the tranquility of being your own boss makes it all worthy. Work as a Freelancer and face challenges As a freelancer you will have to go through the typical job spikes, but you need to manage them carefully. You have to know how to sell, you have to know how to manage your work, support your current customers, and you have to find hours to be able to deliver the projects in progress. You will have to learn how to respond to customer requests quickly and professionally. There are tasks that often cost you days of work, and your selection of customers is a critical decision for your business. Your motivation must be bulletproof; clients who really give you interesting projects will encourage you to do great work. A good advice I can give in relation to customers is that once your reputation is lost, it can not be recovered again. Inappropriate customer behaviors, poorly done work or late deliveries can harm any professional image. It is essential to have a good reputation as that will bring many recommendations from satisfied customers. Develop a memorable personal brand so you can communicate who you are and what you can do. This will help people who know you to remember when they need your services. Only when you have a solid personal brand you can work on the marketing aspects that serve you better. It’s important to keep your work focused on what interests you, choose a niche market that pleases you and focus on achieving customers in that area.
