About Morris, NY
The town of Morris, NY is located on the western border of Otsego County, northwest of the City of Oneonta. The Unadilla River defines the west side of Morris, and Butternut Creek, one of its tributaries, flows southward through the town. Originally settled around 1770 and called Butternuts, it was renamed in 1849 after General Jacob Morris, son of Lewis Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and recipient of a land grant in the area. Among the major businesses in Morris are Tree PRO Services and the gift and basket design shop Strawberry and Vine, and you can always get something good to eat at Nina's Pizzeria & Restaurant. Morris students attend the Morris Central School (PK-12). Famous Morris residents include Richard Franchot, Congressman and Civil War officer, and G. McMurtie Godfrey, US Ambassador to Laos from 1969-1973.
