My family and I recently relocated here from Cleveland Ohio. Coming to Syracuse my wife and I met with our real estate agent who went over our likes and dislikes and set up several builder interviews to see who sat the most comfortable with our family. Mr Decker made us very at ease by explaining who he was and were he came from in which we found many similarities. Mr Decker went through the pre-construction meetings with the understanding, that what was in our best interests was in his. The only drawback we experienced with Mr Decker was the inital construction start which was delayed by 1-2 weeks. Coming from a commercial construction background I was pleased when showing up to visually inspect my house periodically that Mr Decker was available nearly every evening inspecting my house and alowing us on the jobsite when he was on the building grounds. At the 2/3rds point of the house being completed we took care of any extras that were not in the contract amount. Mr Decker stressed to us that when we closed on our house that any extras settled before closing would make for a more pleasing experience. The house now completed I can honestly say looks custom and is not the average track house our family saw so often when we came to Syracuse. At construction's end during closing we reviewed the 4 punch list items, which were taken care of within the month of closing. MTD Development....hmmm.......... where do I start. \t\n\t\n I found the owner of this organization to have quite a Napoleonic complex; he is stiff, rigid, and unwilling to take new ideas, even if he is building you a custom home. For someone that is a builder of custom homes, he seldom wants the customers input. Don't get me wrong, he (well not him, his subcontractors) builds a fairly nice home, but the problem is, mediocrity is a standard acceptable to him. Should there be something that is not black & white, get it in writing. (p)\t\n He tends to let previous customers in on the financial dealings with current customers, not that that is a bad thing, but do you want your neighbors knowing all of your business dealings with your builder?.. some things are better left unsaid??. but all is fair in MTD land.(p)\t\n\t\n DO NOT move in to your new home until everything is finished, I mean EVERYTHING, because his follow-up actions are not follow up actions, more like, ok,... I got paid for this house, I'll get to it, when I get to it. If there is one thing not done before the close make sure it gets done, or else it won't. \t\n DO NOT let them talk you into extras that may be paid after the close .......ex: We can just have you pay for these extras after the close, I usually come around, right around Christmas time, wish some holiday greetings, and collect a check, DO NOT FALL FOR IT, because after the close you will not want to see him again, much less have him over for a little holiday cheer.
