The village of Clinton, named after Gov. George Clinton, is located on Oriskany Creek in Oneida County, New York, in the Utica-Rome metro area and is known as a college town. Major attractions include the Kirkland Art Center and the Clinton Arena. Each year in August, the annual Clinton Arts and Music Festival is held here. The biggest school here is Hamilton College, a highly selective, top-ranked, private liberal arts college. One of the best places to visit when you are in Clinton is Delta Lake State Park, located within 20 miles of Clinton and where you can enjoy hiking, boating, fishing and camping. Well-known residents of Clinton have included U.S. senator and diplomat, Elihu Root and composer of the hymn "Rock of Ages," Thomas Hastings.
