Her website advertised free/discounted services, so I emailed her for clarification on who qualifies. I told her this patient has no insurance, what could she do or what further info can she give me. She responded that she does 3 free sessions and the rest are $50/session. When this person called to schedule an appt, telling her that they were looking for the free sessions she offered, she did not attempt to find out if they qualified or not. She then asked for $150 after the session, and said she did her best to negotiate. No one should pay for a dissatisfied visit, and no therapist should feel right taking someone's $ under those circumstances. I called to find out where the miscommunication came from, and she denied telling me she did free work, until I read her email back to her verbatim, but would not refund. In my experience, I was extremely misinformed by her on pricing and services she offers. Her website advertised free or discounted services for those who need it, so I emailed her because I wanted to receive clarification on who qualifies for it. When I emailed, I told her that this patient does not have medical insurance, what could you do to help or do you have any further information for me on elsewhere to look for someone who has "x" problems. She responded promptly saying that she offered three free sessions and the rest were $50 per session. When this person called to schedule an appointment, telling her that they were looking for the free sessions she offered, she did not at all mention further information to figure out whether they qualified for this or not. When they went to her appointment, she spent most of it having them fill out paperwork and placed them in a category, and was not interested in their individual needs, regardless of how dire they may or may not have sounded to her. She then asked for $150 for the session, and said she "did her best to negotiate." No one should pay for a dissatisfied first visit, and no one should feel right taking someone's money under those circumstances.
