About Pahrump, NV
Pahrump is a desert city located 60 miles west of Las Vegas. Its elevation of 2,725 feet cools off the desert temperatures, especially at night. Apart from the nearby attraction of Las Vegas, Pahrump is one of the gateway cities to Death Valley National Park, 60 miles away. However, even nearby the city, residents take on their own desert adventures, from ATVing to horseback riding to hiking. Residents look forward to the annual Fall Festival, featuring Wild West activities like rodeo events. Ganix Bio-Technologies and Sun State Components of Nevada are two companies that have recently sprung up in Pahrump. Students attend Nye County public schools, a district that encompasses 18,000 square miles. The earliest settlers of Pahrump, the Southern Paiutes, gave the city its unusual name, "pah" meaning water and "rimpi" (later shortened to rump) meaning "stone."
