Cheap Auto Body Repair and Refinishing…is there such a thing?

It’s common for people to look for a deal, because that’s just what makes the world go ’round in our capitalist economy. From doctor’s visits, dentist visits, to mechanic visits and more, we’re programmed to find the best value for the money we pay. Unfortunately, most people just don’t plan on having to spend money on cosmetic upkeep of their vehicles which can make visiting an auto body shop a pain in the pocketbook. What’s even more frustrating is the relatively high deductible payment for an accident (commonly $500–ouch!). Here’s some insights into how you can add value next time you’re at an auto body repair shop: Get Some Free Cosmetic Maintenance 1. Light scratches that can’t be detected when you run over them with your fingernail are most likely buffable. Many body shops will try to charge for refinishing when all the panel needs is a little rubbing compound and a buff; ask the body shop if they will provide this service for free with other services you’re paying for. 2. Headlamps become cloudy because the manufacturer’s UV coating has either worn off or just wasn’t very good in the first place; it’s a pretty common occurance here in Las Vegas. The quick lube stores offer to buff your headlamp, which can restore shine but it doesn’t restore UV protection–it does the opposite; ask your auto body shop if they can apply a clear coat to your headlamps…this is also something that you can ask for with other services, and it’s not very costly, in fact it can be free. Collision 1. When you get into a crash, you have a lot of stuff to set up that you may not have much time to do. As a general rule, get the body shop to do as much of this as possible for you; a body shop can set up a rental, do claims assistance, obtain payments, and much more with direct communication to the insurance company; all of these things help free up your time and make the repair a much less stressful ordeal for you. 2. Avoid parking lot/drive by repairmen that will take money from you and leave your car in worse condition which often makes the repair more expensive because the body shop has to remove repair materials to perform the work properly. If you have someone approach you and tell you they can fix your car in your driveway or parking lot, beware because it’s most likely going to cost you a couple hundred dollars AND THEN you’ll be taking it to a reputable body shop to get it repaired correctly. ...read more

A New Brand For Autos

We have been working hard on rethinking our marketing and branding. It’s difficult to find just the right brand for a group of auto body shops because, let’s be honest, auto body collision repair and paint just isn’t the most exciting thing in the world–in fact, a collision repair shop is the last thing in someone’s mind before they get in an accident. However we think we’ve finally come to the right place with our new branding efforts, and we think our loyal customer base will be proud of us…we’re developing a brand that will show our customers a strong promise, backed by an unprecedented national limited lifetime warranty. We’re also shoring up our efforts to show how we’re not just a single body shop, we have two body shops that cover both Las Vegas and Henderson. We think people need to know that we’re actually bigger than we look, and that’s a good thing…it gives customers the peace of mind that we’re not a fly-by-night and that we’ve been around for well over a decade between the two shops. Keep checking back, we’ll update you on the latest changes in our service platform! ...read more

Parking Lot Repair

There’s a lesser known scam out there involving incorrect auto body repair done by a person that approaches you in a parking lot or in your driveway offering body repair and paint services. Don’t be fooled by parking lot repairmen who often ask for money up front before completing the work on your vehicle. In fact, one of the shady tactics employed by these parking lot shysters is to put a lot of compound on the repair area after they have painted it, then tell you that you should wash it off when you get home and it’ll magically (okay, they don’t use the word magically) match the finish of the rest of your vehicle. Consumers beware! It’s not only a cheap way to get a bad repair job, but fixing what has been done wrong often costs more than it would have if the parking lot guys never touched it. Stay away, say no, just don’t be tempted! Las Vegas Shysters Try To Take Your Money And Run ...read more

Simplicity

Our body shop likes to keep things simple for customers. Shep Hyken, a leader in customer service training says we’re doing it right: Let’s assume that whatever you sell, be it a product or service, does what it is supposed to do. In the process of delivering that product or service, just be nice.  Do what’s right for the customer. That’s all there is to it.http://tinyurl.com/8n4o7u9 Auto body repair can be a complex process from beginning to finish. We simplify that process by providing a one stop shopping experience, we help arrange your rental, we overnight parts orders, we meticulously plan the repair, our technicians repair according to manufacturer recommendations, we carefully detail your car… But, you don’t have to worry about any of that. We’re just doing our job. ...read more

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT WITH OUR ELECTRIC GAMES!!!

We like to lend our support to the community, and since we have a venue that’s a fun place for parties we think it’s time to share it with Las Vegas and Henderson. We have an arcade with pool tables, air hockey tables, skeeball-type lanes, retro arcade machines, and a Wii/TV room. The Arcade can comfortably entertain a party of up to 40 people. If the arcade can be used as a way to drive fundraising revenues for different organizations, we feel that it’s a good cause. So far, we’ve been able to support a couple of local Boy Scouts Troops…both troops generated a substantial amount of revenue for their Scouts by offering an Arcade Party Reservation at their own private service auction. The people who generously donated their money to the troops are able to enjoy an Arcade Party at a time and date of their choosing, so it’s a win-win. We just want to give to our community in some small way, so we don’t charge anything for use of the facility when it’s used for a good fundraising purpose. Please contact us via Facebook at Automall Autobody to let us know of your interest and to request permission to use our facility. We allow the arcade to be used in service auctions or for other fundraisers…we only ask that the money raised goes toward helping others. ...read more

Driverless Vehicles To Change Auto Industry Forever

Never heard of a car share? Here’s a quick explanation: Rental companies in some densely populated areas (like San Francisco) have installed a device in vehicles that allows the cars to be unlocked, and the ignition engaged by use of a card reader. Car shares can be rented from virtually anywhere a vehicle is parked. The current logistical problems are positioning of vehicles, adequately refueling vehicles based on honor system, accounting for damage on vehicle from each driver, and the list goes on. So why the explanation of car shares? They’re the “future” as rental companies see it, and they’ve invested a fair amount of money in the mechanism that secures the vehicles from being hijacked as well as the web-based scheduling program that deals with the logistics of the transactions for this fleet of vehicles. However, newer technologies are coming fast, and we believe Google will soon compete in the car share and driverless business…they got into the phone business quite easily, so why not cars? Google has been testing autonomous driverless vehicles since the first license was issued to do so in Nevada in May of 2012. Other states have followed, and it is only a matter of time before community shared and private vehicles will be equipped with self-driving capabilities. Imagine a car share app on your phone with a driverless vehicle. You schedule a pickup for 7am the night before and then the next morning when you walk outside you have a car parked in front of your house. No driver, no keys. It’s just sitting there waiting to take you where you tell it to go. Lots of possibilities. With driverless technology, the logistical nightmares that car share companies face today, for the most part, go out the window. Won’t this synergy of technologies be wonderful for vacationing out of the country? You won’t have to worry about the horrible taxi driver, and the rates will be reasonable because you’re a platinum car share member, of course. You will feel pretty safe too knowing that if the car breaks down you will be picked up by an autonomous replacement. The future is coming. Google knows what they’re pioneering and it’s going to change transportation forever. A lot of people don’t realize how cool this will be. Consider yourself informed. ...read more

ksl.com - 3 arrested in alleged moving scam

EAGLE MOUNTAIN UTAH-- Three men were arrested Monday for posing as movers in order to get money from a woman who was preparing to move across the country.Julie McNair needed her furniture moved from Eagle Mountain UT to South Carolina. She used a moving broker website to get bids from five companies. The cheapest came back from what she thought was the national moving company Atlas Moving Lines for around $1,800.On Monday the movers started loading her belongings into the van. But Julie said she had a funny feeling -- which was confirmed when the movers said her things weighed more than they'd originally thought so they were raising the price to $5,100.In addition, their truck appeared to have an Atlas Van Lines decal recently placed on it, though the men were wearing shirts with the Atlas Van Lines logo and website on them.Julie's mother called Atlas -- the real Atlas. The company said the movers were not associated with them, and it has been trying to stop this scam for months. Atlas's attorney Todd Suter says the scam has been going on all over the country, especially in the west, for as long as six months."I'm sure it's connected to a larger organized crime connection," said Lt. Darren Gilbert of the Utah County Sheriff's Office.Julie confronted the fake movers.Julie said, "When I sat him down I just said, 'You know and I know you're a liar and this is not the actual Atlas Van Lines and I'm not signing anything.'"Julie went outside to get a license plate number off the truck, only to discover it didn't have plates. So she stood in front of the truck."He said, ‘OK, fine, we don't have time for this today so I'll unload it and I'll only charge you $400 for the packing material in cash and you don't call the police,'" Julie said. But she already had called them. When officers arrived they arrested the men -- after they unloaded her belongings.Court records show the three men told police they worked for a man named George. When investigators contacted him, he said his company is called Atlas Van Lines but is separate from the nationally-known moving company."The website matched up, all their names and all the invoices they were sending and the quotes they were sending had 'Atlas Moving Company' and the exact logo of Atlas," Gilbert said.Suter told the Deseret News people seeking a moving company sometimes enter their information on a website that generates leads for scam artists. He called the Internet "a cesspool of trademark infringement."The suspects are identified as:Zoher Awad, 26Itzhak Taizi, 29Juventino Ruiz-Vazquez, 27They are all from San Jose, Calif., and were booked into the Utah County Jail for communications fraud. Their bail is set at $2,500.The real Atlas hopes this latest case gets the word out to both law enforcement and families preparing to move. ksl.com - 3 arrested in alleged moving scam Here are the "red flags" to look out for:• The mover doesn't offer or agree to an onsite inspection of your household goods and gives an estimate over the telephone or Internet — sight unseen. These estimates often sound too-good-to-be-true. They usually are.• The moving company demands cash or a large deposit before the move.• The mover doesn't provide you with a copy of "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move," a booklet movers are required by Federal regulations to supply to their customers in the planning stages of interstate moves.• The company's website has no local address and no information about their registration or insurance.• The mover claims all goods are covered by their insurance.• When you call the mover, the telephone is answered with a generic "Movers" or "Moving company," rather than the company's name.• Offices and warehouse are in poor condition or nonexistent.• On moving day, a rental truck arrives rather than a company-owned or marked fleet truck.FMCSA ...read more

BBB reports moving scams on rise

LAS VEGAS --With the housing crisis in Nevada, a lot of people are on the move, and there are people trying to take advantage of that. Complaints are on the rise and the Better Business Bureau is warning about rogue movers. The BBB says they investigated 200 moving company complaints this past year, double from the year before. "We had a complaint just in the past week where the consumer lost their whole truck. It didn't show up, and the moving company didn't find it and the mover, because it was a rogue mover and they had just hired somebody, the guy quit halfway and just left the truck. They found it in Texas," said BBB CEO Robert Crockett. Common signs of rogue movers include lack of a written estimate, demanding an up-front cash deposit and showing up in rental vans instead of marked vehicles. TheBBB launched a campaignagainst fraudulent moving companies. They are spotting many rogue moving companies coming from Los Angeles, stealing business from licensed local movers. "A rogue mover will pop up with a name very similar to ours, give a horrible estimate that short sells what the wage should be. When the customer comes time for delivery, they jack up the price a few thousand dollars and hold your items hostage," saidMike The Mover with IC Moving. All38 Nevada moving companiesare licensed by the Nevada Transportation Authority (intrastate license only). In addition, theFederal Transportation Department(interstate license)has online guidelines of what to expect from legitimate moving companies. That includes the pamphlet showing your customer rights companies are required to give you by law such asYour Rights and Responsibilities When You MoveandReady To Move. Also, consumers may want to carry additional insurance. In many cases movers are only liable for 60 cents per pound. So read your contracts or talk to your mover before the moving truck gets loaded. When it comes purchasing moving insurance, there are three levels of insurance types: Limited liability, lump sum value and full value protection. But before you buy insurance, here are a few tips. Never buy moving insurance from a moving company... they are movers, not insurance agents. Check your homeowner's insurance. Some policies cover property in transit. Consider purchasing short-term insurance that covers the move if your property is very valuable. Remember, items in boxes not packed by the mover are not covered, unless the outside of the carton provides clear evidence that the entire box was damaged during the move. The mover is responsible for any electronic item(s) that do not function after the move only if there is clear evidence that the item was dropped or mishandled during the move. The customer has nine months after the move to file an initial claim against the mover. The mover is legally obligated to acknowledge any claim within 30 days and to resolve it or offer a settlement within 120 days. But the customer is legally responsible to pay for the move, even when claiming extensive damages. You have to go through the claims process to receive compensation for any damages.
