Two months from payment to delivery. Which would have been fine had I received the professional built box that I paid for. Instead I received a box that looks like a trainee built. You can clearly see screws that missed their mark. Also the so-called professional carpet was coming apart the day I received it. Importance of Dehumidifying Home for Newly Installed Wood Flooring
Higgins Wood Floors recommends the use of dehumidifiers in the basements of all new construction for the first year to prevent the newly installed wood flooring from picking up too much moisture. If left unchecked, excessive moisture could cause the wood flooring to buckle and lead to excessive gapping this winter. This is especially important with a wide plank floor or a floor installed over a radiant heat system. Even moderate absorption of moisture from the air can cause boards to press against one another as they swell. Heavy pressure of this sort can result in some crushing of wood fiber. Technically known as "compression set", this crushing is the common cause of floor gaps. A relatively narrow margin of each board has to take the brunt of the compression, though the whole board takes up some of it. After a board has been compressed this way, it never completely recovers. When the flooring loses moisture each board shrinks away from its neighbors. The width of the crack is roughly equal to the amount of crushing, or "set," the board underwent while at the higher moisture content. The drying and shrinkage are most likely to occur during the winter when the house is heated. The average humidity is then lower than it was during the construction period. Do I have to be out of the house while the work is done?
While many of our clients do coordinate vacations with our work so they can be out of the house it is not always necessary. It really depends on what you're having done and the scope of the work being done. Nailed down pre-finished wood flooring can be walked on as soon as it is installed, where as our site applied finishes have various dry times from a few hours to twelve. The fumes from wood floor finishes should be avoided but depending on the lay out of your home and the ventilation of the areas being done it may be possible to stay in the house while we do our work.
