But how do you do this and make sure that you get exactly what you want? How to Prepare the Perfect Print File for Custom Shirts? The first thing that you need to do is a test run. You should always get your design on a shirt and make sure it is exactly what you want, and that the colors are displaying properly before you order in bulk. You especially want to make sure that your shirt and image colors are not similar if you want your image to display properly. PREPARING THE FILE As for preparing the file itself, you have likely done the design work in a program like Photoshop, and if not, then you can definitely import the work into Photoshop. You can export your file in several different ways, but the printer will likely have a method that they prefer. Some of the common file formats when it comes to shirt design include PSD, TIF, PNG and PDF. Of course, you also want to save an editable version of your file in PSD format no matter which type of file you export to. If you are saving from illustrator, then you can save as AI, EPS or PDF. FONTS The most important thing that you can do is to ensure that you outline all fonts to convert them to vector shapes that they can be resized without changing the resolution of the image.
