Ceiling fans are an inexpensive way to add comfort to your home throughout the year. When you're using a ceiling fan, you can then raise the thermostat setting, resulting in reduced air conditioning energy consumption up to 40% or more while still keeping your room cool. Summer = Counterclockwise Most ceiling fans have a clockwise setting and a counterclockwise setting, each appropriate for a different season. A ceiling fan’s direction in the summer should be rotating counterclockwise or forward to produce a cool breeze by the downward airflow. The thermostat won’t actually change but the room will seem several degrees cooler. During the summer, you should have your ceiling fans running on high with the air blowing down directly below the fan. Raise the temperature on your thermostat by a few degrees. Your ceiling fan doesn’t directly cool the air by itself, but it helps circulate the cool air better. Set the Fan Stand under the fan and turn it on. If you feel a breeze from the fan, then it's set on the summer setting, usually counterclockwise. Otherwise, turn off the fan, climb up near the base of the fan, and look for a little button or switch that sets the fan to run in the opposite direction. Flip the switch and turn the fan back on. You should now feel a nice breeze. When to Turn it Off Make sure to turn your ceiling fans off when you leave home. With a programmable thermostat, you can set your air conditioning unit to turn off and on based on when you’ll be home. Unfortunately, most ceiling fans don’t offer this feature; instead, you’ll have to turn them on and off yourself. First thing you must change your furnace filters and also keep grass and bushes from growing around  the A/C unit .You can also check to see if you A/C is clean if the coil is dirty on you central air  [ A/C unit ]  you can wash it  with your garden hose. PLEASE!!! shut  the A/C unit off  and either pull your fuses or shut off your breaker at fuse box before doing anything with the central air to prevent getting shocked .Now once you did that take your garden hose and proceed  to wash the central air,  the outside coil only  using care not to bend or damage the fins. Wash  the A/C unit at a 60* angle starting from the top of the fins and washing down  going around the A/C unit till the whole coil is clean .Wait 15 minutes and return fuses and turn breaker on then turn A/C unit on setting thermostat to desired temp , and  then enjoy the fruits of your labor. ...read more
