Zager Guitar

5.0

By GarretBethke

My name is Garret. My step dad recently purchased a Zager Guitar. I have been playing guitar for years and have always wanted a guitar I could play on as easily as this one. If i could have anything right now it would be to afford this great instrument. Its so amazing to be able to play for hours and avoid my demon thoughts of the drug gods calling me to use. I hope i can one day own something so pure to pleasure my mind with something beyond the wicked solos of hell. Keep on rockin in the free world. gjbethke@gmail.com ...read more

By Merrit Beuning

I am so glad to have found Faye at Musically Speaking. She teaches in such a way that my girls want to learn more and enjoy going to piano lessons. Her system of rewards if very motivating to my kids. She is kind and encouraging. I have had the pleasure of starting guitar lessons this summer with Faye. My lesson time just flies by and I am having such fun. It is well worth the drive from the other side of town. ...read more

Things I wish I knew when I started taking lessons as a kid

This is going to be a thread all about little life lessons I learned while taking lessons from different private teachers throughout my years in school.  Some of them may seem obvious, but they are all things I think both parents and students should consider while looking for a teacher, or deciding on an instrument. The first one is simple:  Do not think you will learn everything about playing an instrument in a couple months.     - My main instrument is voice, and I am still taking lessons for myself.  Even after 15 some years of lessons, and about 20 in choirs and performing groups, I still find myself learning new techniques and styles. As soon as I get rid of one wrong pronunciation or too much tension in one place, a different challenge pops up and needs attention.  This is the life of a musician. Music is not a science, it is an art.  You can get very good at what you do, but it will never be perfect.  The moment you think your playing is perfect you stop learning, and then the musician next to you will surpass you. This is the reason I continue to attempt to better my voice, and my understanding of the language of music. The second one is:  Practice is a life skill     -The act of practicing is not something that is specific to music.  We practice math, reading, giving speeches, interviews, foreign languages, pretty much everything we do is practiced at some point.  Understanding that the more you do something the better you will get at it is fundamental.  Unfortunately this is true of bad habits as well. This is why a teacher is an important part of learning.  They are able to help a student realize when a bad habit is forming, and foster good habits instead. ...read more
