Please be careful with this store, I seldom give the bad review, unless I really really have bad experience and I do not want to happen to other people. Remember this store do not give you a refund and they gave me a store credit. I still have store credit around $30 (I think might be more than $30) and I asked them when its expired, they said by the end of the year (end of December). Before December, I went to the store and they do not want to give me the credit.. so please be careful…. I do the consultation with one of lactation and when the lactation held my baby, the head of my baby hit hard to the scale and my baby crying out loud. (The lactation consultant do this bang on my baby head to the scale until my baby crying out loud). I really concern about this, but i do not know what to do about this, ...read more

A Little History

Green Gate Olive Oils, a family owned and operated specialty store featuring olive oil and balsamic vinegars from around the world will have it’s grand opening on April 8and 9. Based on a similar premise to that of a wine bar offering tastings, Green Gate Olive Oils gives customers the unique opportunity to sample each of the 40 different varieties of oils and vinegars in the store. After customers have made their selection their purchase is bottled and sealed fresh for them on the spot. “We give people an interactive experience that allows them sample our product prior to making a selection. Our customers leave knowing they love what they bought and we give them suggestions on various ways to use their oil and vinegar selections”, said Brandon McDaniel, Manager Green Gate Olive Oils. “Stepping into the store, seeing all the different flavors and hearing how others use the product in their cooking makes it difficult to be anything but inspired. The oils and vinegars at each tasting station are stored in stainless steel containers called fustis, imported from to preserve the freshness and flavors of unique olive oils like: Chipotle, Garlic, Tuscan Herb Blend, Blood Orange and White Truffle. As well as a flavorful variety of balsamic vinegars including: Espresso, Cinnamon Pear, Pomegranate, Dark Chocolate, and a Traditional 18-year aged balsamic, just to name a few. In addition to oils and vinegars, Green Gate Olive Oils offers a variety of specialty products, including pasta and sauces imported directly from as well as spices, chocolates, olive oil-based soaps and French linens. Following the success of their first store in , , in April, 2010, which was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year by Pinehurst’s 4-star Chamber of Commerce, owners Keith and Georganne McDaniel decided to open a second store in which will be managed by their son Brandon McDaniel. “We are thrilled to be in Winston Salem. Keith and I are natives of and I am a graduate of UNC-Greensboro.,” said Georganne McDaniel, Owner Green Gate Olive Oils. “We look forward to making many new friends in the Winston Salem area while bringing you a new and exciting product to enhance your cooking and dining experience” A modern take on Mediterranean ambiance meets Southern charm. The History of Our Company.

The history is rather interesting, and I would like to share their story with you. The company is owned by  Melissa Holmes, and her mom, Judy Baker.  They are a Christian based company, and they consider The Gourmet Cupboard a blessing to them in many ways. After teaching elementary school for 6 years, Melissa decided to quit and stay at home with her first, soon to be born, son. Kaden was born in August of 2001. School was already back in session, and she began to look around for a hobby to take up.  Her mom, Judy Baker, and she started making "homemade" gifts for all of their friends.  They mixed up the dry ingredients to some of their favorite family recipes, packaged them in Ziploc bags, typed up the directions and with 1-2 other ingredients to add to the mix, then they sent them out for Christmas, wedding, and baby gifts.   They  had  great responses from everyone who tasted them. Then they started experimenting with other recipes. Her mom and she have both always loved to be in the kitchen, baking, cooking, and experimenting. and they really had fun with this!!   So they started to give away other mixes, and the popularity of it all began. They decided to spruce up their packaging a little and see if they could sell their products. After their first craft show, they knew immediately that they had a good thing going, and there could definitely be a future in this for the next 5 years.  They operated out of a specially designed building built by Melissa's husband, Shannon  that was located adjacent to their home.  Its convenient location allowed her to stay at home with Kaden and Kale, who was born in December of 2003.  They have recently built a new, larger facility at a better retail location. They still experiment all the time, sometimes finding exciting new mixes to put together and sometimes throwing out their concoctions, but they say that is the fun of it all!!  Some of their original mixes are included such as Heavenly Chocolate Pie, a recipe from Melissa's great grandmother, Mexican Meatloaf, a recipe that has been in the family for years, Spinach Dip, and Key Lime Pie.  They offer many Cajun mixes as well. Many of their Northern distributors have not heard of some of Cajun dishes, such as etoufee. They don't realize that people really do eat crawfish here in the South!! Even with their business spreading out all over the country, they truly try to keep the warm family atmosphere here in the shop. And in keeping with the family feel, there's no heavy machinery. No mixing vats or assembly lines. All the mixes are mixed by hand. The new shop also proudly displays messages from our distributors all over the country. They send us prayers, scriptures, blessings and notes to put on the wall.  Melissa and her mom work very hard at making their business a truly great one.  They take lots of pride in their  mixes, in the way they run their company, their quality service, their wonderful employees, and all the friendships they have made with their distributors and retail customers all over the world. ...read more
