Sometimes gifted members in the church are not working in their calling because they do not know how to work in their giftings. Gifts and Offices can be confusing to members of the body of Christ. One can have a gift and think it is a call to the office. And one can be given an office and not have the gifting of that office. There are Pastors in office who are really evangelists. Evangelists in office who are really prophets, and so on. Members then see is the office and not the gift. The Pastor's office, the Evangelist's office and the Prophet's office, is all that the gifted member see. They conclude that the gifted must also have an office in order to be used. But that is not true! There are those in the local church that have the gifts of the Pastor, Prophet, Evangelist and Teacher... (and more), but have not been released to use their gifts! And because they are not in office, they don't know how to use their gifts in the local church. That stops the growth and development of that local church! How does the church organize its local body? Well, the short answer is, that the leadership of the church must "discern" its gifts and align it mission and purposes in such a way as to employ the giftings that God has put in the church. The church body must walk in obedience to God's purpose for it, not just a few "superstars." The whole church must be a worship center, or a deliverance center, or a soul saving center, or whatever the church is supposed to be about. How can you tell what the church is supposed to be doing? Well, it can be as simple as looking at the fact that everybody sings and play instruments... you might have a worshiping center! Or maybe the church has strong teachers... you might have a "Word Church!" I know that this is a bit simplified, but, this is where you start. A church MUST begin with the Great Commission of Jesus Christ, and there MUST be outreach, prayer, worship, preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God will then edify and gift the church with His purposes and design for that Body. The lack of insight into God's plan for the church or ministry could be the death and demise of it. Ever so gifted, and ever so anointed are the individuals in the church, but the lack of understanding the assignment and purpose of the serving body as a church will cause that church body to die! Every person, every member of a local body must find his or her functioning purpose there, and be content to carry out that spiritual assignment or assignments. This is accomplished by faith that matures through the Holy Spirit's leading in that local Body. God has equipped your leader, your under-Shepherd to guide you in and through that process. Start now, renew your commitment... do whatever you need to do to align yourself with the will of God for your life.
