I am sure many people have often wonderedwhat exactly does their Realtor do for them. So I won't bore you with the obvious of listing data on the mls, creating flyers, homebooks, postcards, filing out paper work, internet marketing, entering data on multiple websites, local advertising, etc. All of that is just part of thebasic business of real estate. I am sure too, you aren't really interested in hearing how we spend hours researching listings to find homes that match your search criteria, making calls to zoning, looking up deeds, tax records, plats, home owners associations, covenants and restrictions, etc. just to be able to give you all the answers. That too is just part of thebasic real estate businesswe are more than happy to perform for our clients. I know that anyone who has ever worked with a Realtor knows that we spend multiple hours in the car going from home to home helping our client further research potential homes and have educated ourselves beforehand to be sure we can intelligently answers questions that arise. Once again, just part of the business we are so good at and are pleased to do. However, have you every sat down and asked your Realtor how they go the extra mile in negotiations? I wish my husband could tell you of my experiences. Afterall, at times it seems I spend more time helping my clients than I do at home. I have to almost laugh as I look back at some of the things I have done in the name ofreal estate negotiation. I spent a lot of time negotiating a contract for a couple (who are teachers) with four children to include various preparations of the home for renovations. In the process, before the house went under contract I went in and organized the kids rooms, scrubbed walls, cleaned windows, cleaned bathrooms and generally straightened and gave the missus ideas on how to stage the property. Then after a few weeks of negotiating..... they all agreed on a price, but - get this. The house had to be prepped for renovations. Oh well, the hardest was yet to come. I packed for them and helped them move into their rental house down the street. (Oh, by the way, did I mention I negotiated the rental deal for them also? ) I packed up Goodwill items and had a 16 foot flatbed trailer full that I took to Goodwill. I hauled off the same trailer loaded with trash to the dump. I pulled carpet and padding, removed a stove and spackled walls. Boy was I ready for this deal to close. But you know what? I have the satisfaction of knowing I helped people who could not have managed on their own. They were getting up at 5:30 to be at school by 6:30, tutored afterwards and taught extra classes in the evenings, plus managed to carry their children back and forth to sporting events throughout the week and on weekends. All in all, it was just part of my job. There are many instances like this where I have gone the extra mile for my clients. Want to know about more? Maybe I'll blog about them next.
