Handy's Garbage Service

1.0

By izzierose at Citysearch

This company claims to be a Christian organization; however its operator (female) has zero respect for others property, including property owned but her customers. On 2/28/2008, this company sent out its garbage collection unit to do its business as normal. However this time it included dumping a weeks worth of trash in my neighbor?s and my own yard. When I called to ask why, the female operator told me that she was picking up her trash bin (for late payment, on which there was no bill sent out for me to pay). Her explanations for her actions were it is her company policy not to send out second notices. I have spent the past four hours (10-2) cleaning up their mess. My husband has called the Sherriff's Department for littering. It is under my personal opinion to tell everyone to NEVER use this business. They are NOT good people. ...read more

Controlling Water Damage, Moisture and Mold Problems

Homeowners, insurers, contractors and real estate companies are all facing a challenge from water damage, moisture and mold problems. We will look at the problems being faced, the trends causing these challenges and actions that can be taken to help reduce the problems. During the past few years, the media has started to connect the air quality in the home with water, moisture and mold problems. The rate of mold lawsuits regarding mold has created higher costs to insurance companies, higher homeowners insurance costs and a fear among homeowners of having their insurance cancelled if they make a water or mold claim on their insurance policy. Even worse, mold and moisture problems can affect the ability to sell your home.  The challenges are real, but there are solutions to help everyone overcome these rising costs. We need to learn: Ø What mold is and what is the cause. Ø What you can do to protect your home. Ø What you should do if you have a water damage. Ø What not to do if you have a moisture problem. As your grandmother always said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." You can help protect your home and keep insurance costs controlled by doing your part to keep your home problem free. There are over 100,000 species of mold and they are around us every day. Mold however needs the right environment to grow: Ø High Moisture or high humidity Ø Food (any organic substance) Ø The right temperature Ø Lack of ventilation Mold presents greater challenges to young children, the elderly and other immune-suppressed people. Some mold can produce toxins if the environment conditions are right. The good news is there are things you can do to reduce the growth of mold. The key to keeping mold problems from occurring is to deal with water and moisture problems quickly. You can help to keep your insurance costs down and protect your property as well. The most important step you can take is to identify and humidity, moisture or water damage problems before mold issues can arise. Do not procrastinate if you have a problem. Get help from a professional company to make sure the problem is resolved and doesn't become a much larger issue later. Ø Periodically inspect the home (inside and out) Ø Look for any water or moisture paying special attention around pipes, basements and crawl spaces. Ø Your nose knows…musty and moldy odors may be an indicator of growing molds. Ø Control the humidity in bathrooms, showers or where water is repeatedly used. Exhaust fans, proper caulking and regular cleaning with bleach-based cleaners will help keep problems away. Ø Proper ventilation in attics, crawl spaces, basements and other damp places will help reduce moisture problems. Ø HVAC systems and air conditioners should be routinely cleaned, drip pans emptied and inspected to identify other moisture problems or drain clogs. With proper maintenance you can help to reduce the potential for mold issues. The important things to remember are that immediate repairs and remediation to any water or moisture concerns need to be done making sure that all areas of concern are removed…and if you have a mold issue in your home please contact a professional who handles mold related issues. Health issues during the removal process pose a serious concern that needs to be addressed by someone certified to handle mold mitigation.   Call Servpro of High Point:  Mold Remediation Specialists  336.884.0063 ...read more
