When I called I spoke with Henry and he was really nice. I ordered my furniture and had it shipped to my address in Florida. It made sense to purchase here even though shipping was over $900 because the price was lower than other companies and there was no taxes charged. Five months later I got a statement from the Florida department of revenue stating that I owed 6% the total of the purchase price in taxes to the state of Florida unless I can show that I paid taxes at the time of purchase (which I did not). I called Vance Furniture to ask if this was legal and the man that answered the phone (I didn't get his name) said "Yes, it happens all the time, but that has nothing to do with us.... That's between you and the state of Florida." I was shocked at how rude he was and I went on to ask questions to make sure it was the right Vance Furniture (it was). The customer service I got at the time of the call was completely out of the window from this guy. I asked for Henry and Henry told me that he has seen this twice with the state of Florida. I was turned off by the fact that they did not inform me of this at the time of purchase. If I had known I would have purchased from the store because I would have saved the shipping cost and saved money in the end. Although the issue is pretty cut and dry I was turned off by the fact that I was not informed of this by the company at the time of purchase, especially because they knew of the law. I had to call back to get a copy of my invoice and the rude guy answered the phone again and would not answer any questions (very general questions that anyone there could answer), he said "Henry was your sales person and this is something between you and him" He did not even take a message. I have always felt and still feel that people can handle any news as long as it is presented to them in a respectful way. This situation was NOT handled in a respectful way. My husband and I were there Friday October 1st at the Schewels store on the Lee Hwy. This was my first visit to the store. My husband had a doctors appointment in virginia. We are from TN. We arrived about 45 minutes early for his appointment so we decided to go inside Schewels.The salesman who greeted us at the door was very friendly and helpful. I told him I had never had a new bedroom set and he showed us alot of different bedroom sets, unfortunately I could not afford one. He was so nice and went and got us an entry form to fill out for the free furniture giveaway and then said he would place it in the drawing box. I really liked your store and the reasonable prices.Hopefully, when I can afford a bedroom set, I would love to come back to your store and look around longer.
