The setting for this resort is beautiful, however if you make a reservation for a room at the hotel don't expect them to have a room for you when you arrive. This happened to me last weekend. I had made reservation approx. 6 weeks in advance. When we arrived we were told we would have to stay at a motel that was 3 or 4 miles away. They seemed to think this arrangement would be just fine however it wasn't. I am very unhappy with this resort and could not recommend anyone stay at here. ...read more

When I first heard people talking about the Red Onion, it was described as being in an older house and that it was owned by a black family. I had pictured a very casual country decor with a large cook . What I saw and heard was the sound of trickling water fountains, candle light, romantic background music. The Red Onion could truly not happen anywhere else but the south. It has a character rich in soul that is all it's own and I have never been anywhere else like it. They are a very sweet and warm couple who seem to really enjoy what they do. I am a fan of everything Creole and the menu does lean toward south Louisiana. The bbq shrimp and the red velvet cheesecake knocked my socks off. If you go once you will like it. If you go twice it grabs you and you want to take all your friends to share in the experience. ...read more
