Lowering Utility Bills and Keeping Your Home Warm For The Winter

Lowering utility bills is something we all would like to do, but during the winter is when most of us consider it more.  We find that some rooms are cooler than others, we find air seeping through windows and doors, and we look for ways to make our home more weather proof.  Weatherizing one's home for the winter isn't as hard as most think.  You can visit your local Walmart's home improvement section where they offer weatherization kits. The kits with the double sided tape are the best.  Be sure you have already measured the width and length of any area you are weatherizing so that you have enough plastic for your windows.  Walmart also carrys slide on door and window air stoppers. If you take these steps to weatherize your home, you can use less heat and therefore save on your winter utility bills. Another good way to save on your utility bill is by only using your lights during the nighy hours.  In my home, opening blinds in each rooms lights the entire house for most of the day.  Be sure that you also turn off lights in rooms as you exit. ...read more

What makes a real estate agent successful?

Successful real estate agents are those who work hard, are dedicated, and success driven.  Super agents, as I call them, are very focused individuals.  They aren't afraid to knock on doors, ask for referrals, network, and market themselves.  Having a "can do" attitude is a must.  You must also be customer service driven.  Treating your customers the way you'd want to be treated will keep them coming back and sending referrals.  Knowing how to pull the customers into you helps the sell.  Know what they want and how to give it to them.  Make a lasting impression (the connection). ...read more

Use an agent or search for my own insurance carrier?

Becauseinsuranceis mandatory, shopping around for insurance (same coverage at a lower price) is wise. Also having an agent (broker) who does the search for you is good because they will set everything up for you and can help you decide on the type of coverage needed per your needs. They are basically your advisor. You have an advisor for the same charge as if you had done the search yourself. Theinsurancecompany(carrier) you want them to use for your coverage pays them a small fee for bringing you to them, regardless of which carrier you choose, so they get paid by either company regarless of your selection but they are looking out for your interest. An insurance broker can be sure you have enough coverage, help you save money, tell you when filing a claim is necessary or not.  When your term is up, they can shop around again for cheaper insurance for the best coverage.  ...read more
