TOP 10 VALUE DESTINATIONS FOR FAMILIES
Making the client's dollars stretch farther is the name of the game when they vacation as a family. Choosing the right destinations can make the difference between an easy going getaway, where planning equals fun or a penny pinching holiday full of tears from both adults and children alike. 1. Europe With A Tour Operator. With the euro still presenting a mostly unfavorable exchange rate against the dollar, an affordable European vacation takes finessing. One of the best ways to save is by using a tour operator. 2. Hawaii. With careful planning, families can enjoy the islands of aloha while sticking to a budget. Go off season, especially during the fall. 3. Thailand. Travelers who want to show their kids the exotic beauty of Asia should consider a trip to Thailand. This exotic country is considered one of the worlds most afforable options thanks to a consistantly favorable exchange rate. 4. National Parks. The 390 plus US National Parks around the country make for a money manageable getaway, especially if visitors are road tripping and taking advantage of the inexpensive campsites and lodging available on site. 5. Mexico. The quality of Mexico's many all inclusive resorts means that families can have a five-star experience while controlling costs. 6. A Disneyland Package. A Disney vacation can be made affordable with some strategic planning. Purchasing a Disneyland package that includes accommodations at an off property hotel in Orange County is a money saver. 7. Vacation Home Rentals. Consider the math. If more than three families are traveling together, a vacation home or villa rental is often cheaper and more comfortable than multiple rooms. 8. Jamaica. Out of all the Caribbean islands, Jamaica is a great choice for the cost conscious. There are many flights to Montego Bay airport from a host of cities around the country, so airfare is generally more affordable than smaller islands. 9. An Alaska Cruise. Alaska cruises are a fun and educational way to spend time with your family. Try departing from Seattle which usually means a lower cruise cost. 10. Washington, D.C.The nation's capital offers a patriotic vacation with lots of activities available on the cheap. Start with the 19 free Smithsonian Museums and galleries as well as the National Zoo. Add the many monument, memorials and historic buildings and you'll find you haven't even opened your wallet. Maximize your time and contact a travel agent for help. You'll find a wealth of knowledge and expertise all in one location. It's all about the experience. Give us a call. We'd be glad to help you make new family memories. 2011 Holiday Travel Season Approaching:How To Breeze Through Security
With just weeks before the traditional onslaught of the hectic and somethimes chaotic end-of-year holiday travel season, Kirkwood's Travel Leaders today announced it top five tips for speeding up the airport security screening process. Travel Leaders is also advising local travelers that the window for purchasing airline tickets for holiday travel is rapidly closing, although availability depends on the destination. The overall capacity on airlines ranging from the frequency of flights to the number of available airline seats has decreased, because of airline mergers over the past few years. As a result, flights will be more packed this holiday season. We're strongly advising our clients who are even contemplating air travel over the holidays to confirm their plans immediately, particularly if they are traveling to popular destinations where flight capacity will be much more limited. We are proud to offer our top five tips to enable even the most novice travelers to breeze through security as quickly as a travel professional would. 1. Wear Comfortable Shoes that Can Be Removed Easily: Since all shoes, coats and jackets-and sometimes even belts-must be removed before moving through metal detectors, we advise our clients to make it easier on themselves and the others around them by dressing strategically for the airport. Wear loafers or slip-on shoes instead of lace-up shoes which can be especially difficult to remove at airport security. 2. Remember 3-1-1: If there's one thing that we must do a better job of explaining to the infrequent traveler, it's that all carry-on luggage is subjet to the 3-1-1 rule. The TSA rules strictly limit passengers' liquids and gels that are allowed onboard aircraft to 3 ounce containers stored in 1 clear 1 quart zip-top bag. We advise our customers to have those bags easily reachable at the top of their luggage as they approach security. That way, they won't be fumbling through their suitcases searching for it while others wait. 3. Minimize Items Placed in Security Bins: Time and time again, we have witnessed individuals who place far too many items into security bins and inadvertently hold up other travelers. While you'll need to empty pockets of all loose change and keys, as well as mobile devices, not to mention removing metal jewelry that may set off detactors, it's far more prudent to think strategically before you arrive at airport screening by tucking all of those items into your carry-on. That way, you'll speed up the process plus know where all of your belongings are. 4. Invest in TSA-Approved Laptop Bags: Since we're advocating that you minimize how many security bins you're using, you can reduce to the total by one more by purchasing a TSA-approved laptop computer bag. Not only are these laptop bags practical for screening purposes, but they also help to protect the computer itself. If you don't have an approved laptop bag, you will be required to remove your computer and place it in a security bin, along with other large electronic items. 5. Be Cooperative: Above all else, remember that TSA employees are there for our protection. Since their singular purpose is to keep air travel safe, it is important to be cooperative and courteous throughout the entire screening process. Provide them the same level of respect that you would like to be accorded. That and patience throughout the process will improve your overall experience and get you on your way. A Lesson That Should Be Taught In All Schools And Colleges
Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks from her classroom. When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks. "Ms. Cothren, where are our desks?" asked the students. She replied, "You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to sit at a desk." They thought, "Well maybe it's our grades." "No," she said. "Maybe it's our behavior." She told them,"No, it's not even your behavior." And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom. By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms. Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her classroom. The final period of the day came and the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Ms. Cothren said, "Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you." At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it. Twenty-seven(27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall. By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned..... Martha said,"You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heros did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it." By the way, this is a true story. The freedoms we have in this great country were earned by U.S. Veterans. ...read more
