My experience with KCAV was not a pleasant one. Systems Manager Randy Adler should change his name to Harvey Two Face. Arrogant, rude, and condescending, he displays all the social graces of a pit bull.\t\n\t\nWhere does he get off treating people like garbage? With an attitude like that, I'm surprised the company is still around. Pro A/V is a complex field. Sometimes, things don't work out exactly as planned. Patience, professionalism, and common courtesy go a long way - and their complete and utter absence speaks volumes.\t\n\t\nNever again. ...read more

Small Business in this Economy

Being a small business, especially that relies on discretionary income (for the most part), it can be challenging to motivate yourself to "Keep the Shark Moving".  One thing I have found is that whenever I feel stagnant, even stressed out and anxious about operations, putting myself outside my comfort zone and MAKING myself do something I don't want to almost always rejuvenates my business soul.  Whether it is driving 45 minutes to film a project, flying in an airplane to get a shot, or just making myself sit down in the chair at 1:00 am to edit, I feel a distinct sense of fulfillment after the task is completed.      The most important thing for a small business is to make sure it is driven by passion. Lucrativeness is necessary to some extent, but not sufficient.  As long as enough dough comes in to keep the engine running, you have enough to build on. The key is never turning down a project or service and to always find a way to satisfy the customer. A little luck and a supportive spouse or significant other, especially one with a steady job never hurts either :).      Networking is also a must.  I don't always have time to spend hours on the computer answering emails and trying to get reviews, so after I put my kid to bed I get to work.  Or like right now, Saturday morning cartoons is a perfect time to update the blog.  My brother and I look for business opportunities wherever we can... which brings me to my next point.     Find someone you can count on to be as dedicated as you are. It is a lot of work and stress for one person to take on all of the tasks required to keep the machine well-oiled.  When money isn't pouring in, it is hard to find the tough- and the tough is definitely going!  I'm lucky enough to have a brother who I can count on.  I also have friends and family that are competent filmers and people I can trust.     I'm still unsure of how we are going to get where we are going, but as long as we get there it will be worth it!     ...read more
