Crescent Tide Funeral & Cremation

My Mother became very ill a few weeks before she actually died at age 91 on April 15, 2012. She was still totally aware of what was going on and expressed her desire not to spend a lot of money on a fancy funeral. Instead, she wanted a private burial (no embalming, no visitation) with just her immediate family. With the money saved, she asked that we have a private memorial party in her honor a few weeks after her death when we all would be in better shape to enjoy it. A quick Internet search (I think I Googled "cheap funerals") led us to Crescent Tide. We met with Verlin Stoll, the owner, and chose a package that met our needs. There was absolutely NO pressure to upgrade to a more expensive option, which definitely was not the case when we dealt with a regular funeral home when my father died. It was a great decision to use them. We did hospice care, so they (Verlin and his wife Lisa) picked up Mother's body from her apartment. I was amazed that they showed up in under an hour from the time I notified hospice that she had died, and this was around 10:30 on a Sunday night. They were so quiet in their arrival and departure that none of the other tenants in our small building even knew they had been there. Crescent made the burial arrangements with the cemetery where Mother had a plot, Verlin met us there on time with the body and helped carry the casket. Crescent Tide also handled all the paperwork, obviously on a very timely basis--I had the certified death certificates in a week. My research showed at least two weeks was common. I don't know what more a person would need. I applaud Verlin and Lisa for creating a business to help people make end-of-life decisions without bankrupting themselves.
