Thank you Cary Bergstrom and Paragon Contracting for the fast service on the water clean up. Cary from Paragon Contracting came out at 2am and stopped our water leak from a broken shut off valve. He minimized the damage to our house by tearing up the carpet, opening the walls and drying everything out. I never would have thought he would come out so late, but he said he would and he did. Our adjuster said he may have saved a lot of our personal property. he fixed everything like it was new and he worked it out with our insurance company to get everything fixed right. I would highly recommend Paragon Contracting. ...read more

Cary from Paragon Contracting came out and gave me an estimate that was not the lowest, but gave the best explanation of the work he was going to do and why it should be done that way-he was quit knowledgable. He gave me several choices as to window manufacturer and and siding and we chose Marvin windows and cement sideing with shake accents. It turned out great and we are extremely happy with his work and his professionalism. Thank you Cary and Paragon Contracting!!!!!! ...read more

Top 10 Exterior Projects

When the weather starts warming up, a sudden desire to be outside starts creeping into our thoughts. While you are outside, do some improvement projects that will make a big difference in the curb appeal of your home. 1. Whether you design a small, quiet reflecting pool or an elaborate waterscape, a well-planned ornamental pond provides a soothing touch to your landscape. Preformed liners have revolutionized design and scaled down installation, so anyone can create their own personal oasis. 2. Adding or redesigning a plant bed can make a dramatic improvement on your landscape. It's a great weekend project that the whole family can participate in. The possible combinations of shapes and plant varieties are practically limitless. 3. A well-designed landscape will incorporate the following design elements: unity, balance, proportion, variety and diversity. A landscape is a work in progress, you will need to give it time to develop. Layout your landscape with our Landscape and Garden Planner. 4. Whether you've just built a new deck or you're working with an existing one, make your outdoor living space more beautiful and comfortable with a little thought--and a few finishing touches. Just like the inside of your home, furnish and accessorize your deck to really make it come to life. Then it will truly become an extension of your indoor living areas for you and your family and friends to enjoy. 5. Installing a drip irrigation system saves water--up to a 50% reduction--compared to traditional watering. Drip irrigation systems can be used for containers, raised beds, vegetable rows or balcony gardening. 6. If your deck looks a little dingy, cleaning it can help. But to really get your deck in shape, you also need to seal it. Constant exposure to UV rays and rain can cause neglected decks to fade, crack, split and warp. This is a multi-day project, because there is waiting time between the cleaning and the sealing. 7. There are several reasons for putting up a fence: privacy, containment or architectural and aesthetic enhancement of your yard, to name a few. No matter what your reason there's a fence system to suit your needs and your landscape. 8. Rot or decay of the woodwork on your home can result from the exposure of bare wood after paint chips and peels. Damaged woodwork detracts from your home's beauty. But, you can easily repair most blemishes with a little wood filler, some elbow grease and a dab or two of paint. 9. Patience and planning are the most important things when adding a brick patio to your landscape. And it is easier than you think, especially when laid on sand. You will need a helper to complete this project, but you can do it even if you have never laid brick before. 10. Building a deck may not be the easiest project, but the years of enjoyment a deck provides make the effort worthwhile. Most of the materials involved in this project are too awkward for one person to handle, so once construction begins you will need help.  These 10 steps provided by the LowesYou can contact Chrisco Construction for all your exterior needs including, roofs, decks, siding, gutters, patios, windows etc.  Call the owner Chris at 612-817-8144 or email questions to chris@chriscoconstruction.com  ...read more

Refinished hardwood flooring

Bad Hardwood flooring can turn off buyers quickly.  In todays market buyers want a move in condition house.  Suggest to your sellers to have their hardwood floors sanded and refinished.  With todays new technology in sanding equipment it has become almost dust free.  With a few strategically placed pieces of poly and the clean up is nothing.  Now you have beautifull brand new hardwood floors with all the cracks adn seams filled and smothed out, you can even have them stained a different color and give the room a whole new look for relatively little money.  Paragon Contracting has done several oak floors that we have stained chocolate and the buyers loved it.  The house went from a solid oak look to only an oak trim look with great chocolate brown floor.  ...read more

Ice Dams and solving them and saving money

I am Cary Bergstrom a licensed contractor and professional handyman.  I wanted to bring your attention to the ice damming problems that we have been experiencing this year.  The cost to have an ice dam removed with a steamer, the preferred way, has gone up to $300-$400 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours.  This is almost a doubling in cost due to the large demand for this type of work.  Most of these removal jobs end up costing at least $1000 for a one time remedy.  I say remedy because this is no cure.  It only gets rid of the immediate problem which is good if water is running into your house, but costly when it can an will re-occur.   If there is a build up of snow and ice, I can come out and give you or your clients an estimate for clearing off the snow and ice and suggest to them how Paragon Contracting can maintain the roof for less ice build up in the future. The solution or cure to the problem is to air seal and insulate the attic space.  Air sealing will try to stop or limit the heated interior air from getting into the attic and insulating will stop the transfer of the heat from the interior space to the attic.  Both of these measures limits that amount of heat build up in the attic, thus preventing the melting of the snow on the roof and creating the ice dam when in runs down the roof over the cold eve, leading to freezing and ice formation. I have worked with MN Project ReEnergize to become certified in air sealing and insulating attic spaces.  Their program and engineers have done research into the most cost effective ways to making your home energy efficient.  So by air sealing and insulating your attic you can save about $300 or more per year on your energy bills and greatly reduce the chance of ice damming and its destruction.   Now if you are a Xcell energy customer, I can set you up with an energy audit prior to any work and you may be able to take advantage of the $350 rebate they are offering. If you have experienced some interior staining on your ceiling, I can also come out and repair those and see if there is any additional damage caused by the ice damming.  If you have any questions, please give me a call.
