Dental Implant Frequently Asked Questions

Many people havequestions about dental implants.  Am I a good candidate?  Is it painful?  What are the costs?  The following information ondental implantswill help you answer some of these questions. What are dental implants? Dental implantsare titanium screws that serve as anchors in the jaw bone to replace missing teeth.  After a few months the jaw bone fuses to theimplant, then an abutment, or “post” is screwed into the implant. . Finally, a crown, designed to look like a natural tooth, is either screwed into or cemented over as the abutment.Dental implantsreplace as many teeth as needed, from one tooth to all of the teeth on an arch. What are the benefits of dental implants? Unlike dentures, dental implantsdon’t slip, eliminating the need for adhesives to stay secure. They function like normal teeth, not only when you smile, but also when you eat and exercise. Additionally, they prevent loss of bone in your jaw where you’re missing teeth, and don’t damage any teeth surrounding thedental implant. How successful are dental implants? Overall, dental implantswork 97% of the time. The knowledge and experience of your dentist play a big part in the success of your own dental implants. How much do dental implants cost? The cost varies depending on several things: the experience of your doctor, the number of teeth you need replaced, and the quantity and quality of your existing bone. Sometimes it is necessary to rebuild the bone either simultaneously with implant placement or several months before the implants are placed.  This will be an additional cost and may lengthen the overall treatment time.  This will be discussed at the consultation appointment. Who can receive dental implants? Almost anyone can receivedental implants, though certain medical factors prevent some individuals from receiving them. Talk with your doctor to find out if you’re a good candidate for dental implants. Are there any age limitations? Yes.  We generally wait until young adults have completed their growth cycle.  Mature adults of any age can receive dental implants. Is the dental implant procedure painful? No.  During the surgery, there should be NO pain whatsoever.  Generally, most implant procedures can be tolerated very well just with local anesthetic.  However, bothoral and IV sedationare available for the apprehensive patient. Following surgery the discomfort will be similar to that experienced after a simple tooth extraction.  Pain relievers along with anti-inflammatory medication will be prescribed and should keep you comfortable after surgery. Will my insurance cover dental implants? Many insurance plans provide partial coverage fordental implants. While coverage tends to be minimal, the investment may last a lifetime.  Benefits will be discussed at the consultation appointment, along with interest free payment options. How often will I need to get my implants checked? Dental Implantsshould be examined and cleaned by a trained dental hygienist every 3 to 4 months. How can I take care of my implants? Aside from the occasional examination, proper dental hygiene goes a long way. Care for yourimplantsthe same way you would your natural teeth—by brushing and flossing twice a day. If you still have questions or would like to schedule afree dental implant consultation, please call us orcontact us here. ...read more

A Time To Help

One day while at the grocery store (Kroger). It was raining really hard, the wind was  high It moved you as you tried to walk. This elderly lady walk out the store and drop her bag. To my surpriseNo one stop to help her. I couldn't believe my eyes as I watched all these people runing to their cars.  No one stop!I ran over to her as fast as I could ! She was so upset, crying as she tried to gather all her food. I asked her to stand inside the door as I went to get dry bags for her food. I  bag her food and waited inside the door with her until the rain subsided. I thought to myself what is the world coming to? This could've been my mother or grandmother. People really need to stop and think.  What if.?Have you ever thought "What's going to happen to me when I get older? Will I be able to take care ofmyself? Will I be able to drive a car or go to the grocery store without assistance? These are question most people never think about. But should.  I often think about the lady at the grocery store wondering how shes doing. I wish I had mention Rels Homecare Corp and the services we offer that could help her.But this wasn't a time for business. This was A time to help. For the people who didn't stop to help,  Have you ever thought  this could be you one day? ...read more

Long Term Care

For you parents who are well and active, this is a good time to hold a family meeting and share with your children your plan for long term care. Tell them where financial and legal documents are located. Review health care directives, living wills and long term care alternatives.   Experience has shown that even families that are close can quickly grow angry, jealous and hostile towards each other when an aging parent begins to need long term care. If a sibling moves into the parent's home, others can easily be suspicious of ulterior motives and fear losing their inheritance. On the other hand, the child providing the elder care becomes bitter and feels there is no support or help from siblings. Pre-need meetings for the purpose of making a plan, before eldercare becomes imminent, avoids these types of conflicts. by The  National Care Planning Council   The U.S Department of Health and Human Services states: "No one wants to think about a time when they might need long-term care. So planning ahead for this possibility often gets put off. Most people first learn about long-term care when they or a loved one need care. Then their options are often limited by lack of information, the immediate need for services, and insufficient resources to pay for preferred services. Planning ahead allows you to have more control over your future". http://www.longtermcare.gov    ...read more

Facts about Alzheimer's

What causes Alzheimer's disease? Alzheimer's disease happens because of changes in the brain. These include lower levels of chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) that help brain cells work properly. What causes these changes is not clear. The risk of getting Alzheimer's disease increases as you get older. But this does not mean that everyone will get it. By age 85, about 35 out of 100 people have some form of dementia.1 That means that 65 out of 100 don't have it. Dementia is rare before age 60. Having a relative with Alzheimer's raises your risk of getting it, but most people with Alzheimer's disease do not have a family history of it. What are the symptoms? For most people, the first symptom of Alzheimer's disease is memory loss. Often the person who has a memory problem does not notice it, but family and friends do. But the person with the disease may also know that something is wrong. As the disease gets worse, the person may: Have trouble making decisions. Be confused about what time and day it is. Get lost in places he or she knows well. Have trouble learning and remembering new information. Have trouble finding the right words to say what he or she wants to say. Have more trouble doing daily tasks like cooking a meal or paying bills. The symptoms of Alzheimer's get worse slowly over time. A person who gets these symptoms over a few hours or days or whose symptoms suddenly get worse needs to see a doctor right away, because there may be another problem. ...read more
