China Ruby

By marnielain at Citysearch

I have been a very happy customer at China Ruby over the years and I love it! They have wonderful Asain dishes including curry and cashew chicken(which I prefer with tofu!!) Tina is one of the owners and she is so accomodating and knows her customers by name. The menu is very affordable, with avg prices for a meal around $6-7...Everything is great including the Hot and Sour soup, Crab Rangoon, and delicious Egg Rolls! Each table has various sauces handy like duck sauce and soy of course. Don't forget to grab your fortune cookie to see what wonderful surprises life has in store for you!! N'Joi! ...read more

Fly Trap Restaurant

5.0

By Lori Dwan at Citysearch

Don't let the name fool you! This charming little gem in Ferndale is not to be missed!! The restaurant is small and quaint, (it is a diner) so you may have a wait. The turnover is pretty quick and the service is great. Don't leave and don't let the lines (on the weekends out the door) make you even think of leaving--it is so worth the wait!!! I love everything on the menu...the Huevos Rancheros are to die for..it's a large portion, so be prepared to take a doggy bag! The potatoes are exceptional! The salmon burger is extremely good, moist and a little spicy with great flavor. My husband hates salmon, but loved this burger!! The Mac N' Cheese is so creamy and delicious, you can't stop eating, even though it's a large portion. Don't forget to try the fried rice--it is spicy and so packed full of flavor and again a large portion. You will have to take some home, because the next day, it's even better reheated! Don't miss the daily specials on the chalkboard. Every meal I have ever had, even the meatloaf, would put your favorite grandmother's best cooking to shame! Don't miss the jam for your toast--homemade and so wonderful! The Fly Trap is like eating at a five star gourmet restaurant without the big bill. I have NEVER sent anyone to eat there without returning to me with a rave review. YUM! YUM! YUM! ...read more

French Gourmet

So grateful there wasn't a dress code... my boyfriend was wearing a white Under Armour workout shirt that I quickly dubbed the nipple shirt. No pretense here!\t\nThis is definitely not a fast food restaurant, which I get enough of during the work week. We came here on a Saturday, with no where to be, nothing to do. We enjoyed our wine while we waited for our food. It was decadent, actually, to not feel as though you're in a hurry to eat. \t\nThe food came out and the gates of heaven opened. I feel as though I met someone that spoke my food language- cheese should ALWAYS come with the bread!!! The Cheese and Onion soup wasn't a beef bouillon concoction- it actually tasted like cheese and onion... Imagine that! It was actually perfect. Up until now my perfect Onion Soup had been awarded to Claddagh in Novi (they've been usurped, I'm sorry to say). Anyhow, our meals came out and they were delicious. I would recommend the snapper to anyone... it really is OMG good. My biggest regret is that I didn't leave room for the profiteroles. \t\nTwo thumbs up!!! ...read more

Josephine Creperie & Bistro

Josephine has a warm and welcoming feel. Love the food, decor and music. Not only are the crepes fantastic so is the atmosphere. The art work hanging on the walls is one of a kind. I love how the owners support not only the community of Ferndale but also local artists in the greater Detroit area. ...read more

Great food, fast service, better than drive thru as far as speed is concerned. Pad Thai or chicken cashew are an excellent choice. Soups are great, and most of the appetizers. Never had a bad meal here. Have been to other thai places and most don't even come close. ...read more

Sakana Sushi Lounge

I'm in the middle of this 1. The atmosphere was modern and great and so was the service, but the sushi had real sticky rice and I ordered the chicken terriyaki rice bowl and I hated it. The beef gyoza was amazing but very limited. Their prices weren't to bad but more than usual. I don't think I'll be going back again. ...read more

Assagi Bistro

Oh, how I enjoy a meal at Assagi! The price keeps it from being the kind of place I can enjoy often, but when you're in the mood for something special it's perfect. Their food is beautifully presented and incorporates fresh ingredients and Mediterranean flavors. The seafood is excellent, as is everything else, and the calamari is incredible! The service is professional, friendly, and attentive. A total winner for a lovely dinner out. ...read more

This place has the best food, probably my favorite of all. My faves are the Pad Thai which is perfection on a plate and I recently discovered the Pad Seewew(SP?) that was excellent too. I haven't had anything there that I didn't like except the fresh rolls that really surprised me. I've been going for years and take everyone I know, they always agree. try it once and you'll be hooked. ...read more

Fly Trap Restaurant

4.0

By Iceman721 at Citysearch

I stopped by the Fly Trap in Ferndale on Dec 12, 2008 at around 3p.m. Parking was easy in a metered lot around the back of the restaurant. My visit was on a Saturday afternoon so parking was free and there was plenty of space available in the lot. Being that it is December in Michigan it is cold (about 20 degrees) and due to the small size of the restaurant I actually had to wait outside for about 10 minutes as there was not enough room to stand inside the door. One of the main reasons this restaurant for me is not a 5 star is simply due to its lack of space. The restaurant is quaint but has seating for only about 50 people. That is with about a dozen people seated at a bar in the rear of the restaurant. That is the one thing about this that I would improve. To complicate the seating even further is that you seat yourself. You will see one person sitting alone in a booth where it would have been more practical for him to wait on seating at the bar and sit alone rather than taking up space for four. Enough on that on to the food. We were seated after about 20 minutes. Our waitress was nice but not overly friendly. She took our drink order (coffee/hot chocolate & water) and left us to peruse the menu. The menu is a small one page flyer with simple but eclectic choices. I opted for the Huervos Rancheros. About 10 minutes after my order came a plate that I was warned would be hot (it was). The bottom of the dish had crispy home made tortilla chips with cheese on top, with a large helping of black beans on top of that. An egg over medium was next with the next layer being a fresh pico de gallo heavy on fresh tomato and lighter on cilantro. A dollop of sour cream followed with a couple of slices of jalapeno on top. The taste was fantastic. Not too hot but just spicy enough. The taste of the pico de gallo with the black beans, sour cream and egg was special. I would not hesitate to order this again. Just expand the restaurant and keep the quality of the food! ...read more
