I located Maine Graphics on MerchantCircle, contacted them and took advantage of their coupon for an initial free consultation for my web design needs. Doug drove out to my office, listened to my needs, set a fair price and a time-frame for completing the work I needed done on my web site. He did everything he promised and I'm very happy with the results! Thanks, Doug, for the terrific job! Stephanie Officer ...read more

QR what?

QR codes are  two dimensional codes similar to a UPC code that contains various pieces of information. If you're the proud owner of a smart phone(iPhone, Android, Blackberry) you can use an app to scan the code and get coupons, store locations, informational video, phone number and other tidbits of information sent right to your phone.  QR codes are popping up in magazines, on product boxes, signs, etc. Find out more and create your own printable code here ...read more

Where you're website's been and where it's going

Once you're web site is up and running, you can take a sigh of relief, but the work isn't over yet. With any new site or one that we work on, I usually recommend that some sort of website analysis tool be placed on the site. This does not mean a counter. Simple counters are very late 90's and don't give you the information that you need. We found that most people are concerned with the number of visits only. The number of visitors is relevant- but minimally. I would rather have a high percentage of conversions and fewer visits than visa-versa. One tool that I fell in love with is Google Analytics. I costs nothing at this point, and gives you a boat load of information. One metric that can give you actionable information is the bounce rate. Bounce rates are when visitors visit one page only whether they stay for 20 seconds, or 20 minutes. Depending on how your web site is constructed one page may not be a bad thing. It could be that visitors found the information that they wanted(phone number, address, hours, etc). Most sites however, are constructed so that users need to visit several pages in order to get hooked! Google Analytics allows you to measure the "hook"- contact page sent, product ordered, etc. I'll try to address different metrics in the future. Once you have an analytics tool set up on your site and you start to get some data, I would suggest that you record a few key metrics. Each week, sit down and mark down the data again for those metrics. You'll then be on the road to mesuring, recording, and taking measurable action. No longer can we simply build the web site and sit down to the phone ringing. Your competitors are working hard at being on the first search page. So get get out, grab the code, and start measuring! ...read more
