We have been visiting Islesboro since the early 1980s and have always found that Durkees has been a life saver, both when we arrive off the ferry and during our stay. We have also enjoyed meeting Island residents and learning more about the island from locals, and getting their advice on activities we are planning. I went to this establishment during Memorial Weekend, it was extremely hot and upon entering this store I found the manager/owner extremely standoffish. Then when my family and I decided to get something to eat we showed a common courtisy to the owner by asking permission to bring my service dog into this store. I did not have to by law and he refused to allow my service dog in his store. That is discrimination under the ADA and state law. The person in charge of this establishment should read the laws and try not to be so rude with customers even when they are disabled and he cannot tell what is wrong, not all disabilities are visible. ...read more
