A few days ago, I met a friend at Starbucks for a "quick" cup of coffee. As we sat and shared ideas about family, our careers, the economy, our goals and our visions, in the blink of an eye, 3 hours had quickly passed. In this post, I'm going to share my "epiphany" as to why some folks stay stuck in their lives, and are never able to unleash their full potential. Why do so many people flock to Starbucks for coffee? As a Starbucks junkie, I attest to the fact that the coffee is, in my opinion"a little taste of heaven here on earth."The coffee beans are of the highest quality and caliper. The Starbucks environment and the baristas are warm and inviting. As you open the door, you are immediately drawn in by the energy of the people and the surroundings. It's easy to walk up to a stranger, introduce yourself and be drawn into a conversation...simply because the Starbucks mood andatmospheresends out an energy that is engaging. In 1982 when Howard Schultz joined Starbucks, he could have very easily created a little corner shop cafe and saved himself a lot of money. Schultz could have also taken shortcuts and settled on building a mediocre business. Instead, he decided to extend himself and "go all out" and as a result, Howard Schultz has created a billion dollar empire which now serves people from all parts of the globe. Now here's my epiphany and where I start "thinking outside the box" again. Each and every one of us are faced with choices on a daily basis. Some decisions we make are conscious...other choices are made subconsciously. Needless to say, the choices we make every day mold our future with the end result being determined by good choices, or poor choices. If you're not content and fulfilled with certain aspects of your life, perhaps the choices you are making need immediate attention. Are your friends, associates and colleagues of the highest quality and caliper who promote your growth, build you up and unleash your potential...or are you surrounded by folks who beat you down, disrespect you and are literally stunting your future? Is your daily environment positive, engaging, warm and inviting...or are you living day to day in negative clutter and alarming disorder? Are you extending yourself, "going all out" and expanding the networks in your life with a "global mentality," or are you satisfied with a simple mediocre little corner cafe... Is your energy engaging and inviting, or are you deterring people with sapping negativity and pessimism... I don't like to rely on old adage's but truth is..."You are what your friends are." In 2006I left my 18 year careerand ventured out on my own to build a landscaping business. Suddenly, I found myself surrounded by such positive energetic people unselfishly reaching out to guide me. Their passion to see me succeed consistently fueled me in ways I cannot begin to describe. These friends and strangers believed in me, even when I didn't believe in myself. If you have a passion, vision and a desire, but feel halted, stunted, and your goals appear out of reach, perhaps you need to take a step back and evaluate theenvironmentyou are surrounding yourself with. Think BIG. We are all born with unlimited potential and talent. Never allow anyone to push the "stop" or even the "pause" button on your dreams. Develop a "Starbucks Mentality" for yourself and for your future. You would be amazed at what it feels like when you open that door...It really is a"little taste of heaven here on earth."
