Nixon

By Online Commenter

My wife and I stopped by Nixon's Farm with my brother in search of a possible wedding spot for him. We were not impressed by the lack of maintenance -- it seemed more like a summer camp. Since it was cold we drove over to see the gazebo area, which was away from the reception hall, and were confronted by an aggressive driver who forced us back down the road, the front of his car only feet from ours. At the intersection he stepped out of his car and asked sternly, "Can I help you?" When I told him we were searching for a wedding venue he frowned -- and when I followed up asking if that was okay, he said, "No, it's not. Call and make an appointment." Needless to say, we will not be calling. ...read more

i had a vision and met with a number of painters. gary was true to heart to listen to what it was i was trying to say. he took the idea from my head and made it happen. when gary first came to my house, he took the time to understand what it was i was looking for. he then made me 60 custom samples to choose from! as an artist, garys pride in all that he does is apparent. he went above and beyond my expectations as he took care of all the detail. along the way gary made me very comfortable and trusting of his decisions. in the end, it is hard to put into words with what i was left. i have a beautiful wall (people still dont believe it was painted). the finished project left me speechless and wanting more! ...read more

Spring into Action before the Summer Heat

In the busy world we live in it so easy to put off home and garden projects. Any home or garden project has an optimum time to complete it to get the best results. With this in mind now is the best time to: Clean-up your exterior gardens, re-seed your lawn, add fertilizers to give your gardens a jump start before the summer. This will help your plants and lawn look better and resist the heat of summer. Other exterior maintenance such as deck maintenance and cleaning completed now will decrease the likely hood of moss and mold from getting established. Re-mulching gardens and creating borders between your lawn and garden will make them both look better and be easier to maintain. Remember when purchasing mulch know the source of the products used to produce it because many mulch products also can contain termites or there eggs. With this in mind keep any mulch product at least one foot away from your homes foundation. CypressIn the busy world we live in it so easy to put off home and garden projects. Picking the Right Contractor for your Project

Picking a contractor for a home or commercail project can be very time consumming and in the end leave you with many unanswered questions about the contractors that you have contacted. As a contractor I advise my clients to complete the following qualifications list to be sure that you have made the right selection. Make sure your contractor is licsenced for the type of project you will be undertaking. Many contractors will have a business licsence, but not have contractors or trade licsence. You can check to see if they are licsenced through the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. When you go to the site that I will list below you will need one of the following: The Contractors Licsence Number, The Name of the Contractor's  Business, or  the  Contractors Full Name.  At the site you will enter  this information and if the contractor I a  Licsenced Contractor  they will be listed on the site. The website for checking this is:http://www.dllr.state.md.us/pq/ You will also want to know that your contractor in insured. This will cover you if there was ever an accident or proporty dammage during the project. Get references from your contractor of recent projects and check them. You will want to know if the contractor finished his project on time, with-in budget (without hidden increases), Did they keep the job site clean and safe, was there constant communication during the project to keep the client informed, and finally would they reccomenned the contractor or use them again. Other things to consider are things like do they give free estimates and consults, can they offer multiable materials, or styles to the proposed project. Warranty, do they offer one and what will it cover if you need to make a clain against it. After you complete these steps be sure to look at all proposals to be sure they are alligned in scope and materials supplied. If they are not choose the one that best suits your project and ask the other contractors to respond with the same scope and materials. This might seem like a drawn out process but if you complete these steps you will get the most from your construction dollars and have the project you want. This list could go on and on based on the size and scope of your project, but for most projects the six steps listed above will be more then enough. If you have a project that has a mechanical, technical, artisan, or other speciality send me an email and I may have more helpful information. I can be reached at: Gary@CCS-Artisians.Com ...read more
