I hired My Plumber to replace my gas hot water heater. They quoted a price of about 3000 dollars which I thought was extremely high for a water heater. Since we had no hot water I had no choice but to pay them and get the work done. Once they started working, they realized that they had ordered the wrong hot water heater. So there was half the day wasted. Finally they got the right hot water heater in and installed it. The next morning I was walking around my living room and noticed the carpet was wet. It turns out that they did not do a good job and the new water heater connection was leaking. They came out and fixed it the same day but there was alot of damage done. I had to get the carpet torn up in my living room and second bedroom. A water remediation company had to put dehumidifiers and fans which made my house 90 degrees hot. This was not good with a pregnant wife and a graduate student trying to study for finals. We had to vacate our home for three days and the carpet although replaced, does not look as good as the original carpet that was installed six months before. Is MyPlumber willing to give us any money back? They said they would give us 300 dollars back. So that means I paid 2700 dollars for this hot water heater fiasco. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, and with its beautiful colors, crisp days and cool nights…what could be better? It’s also a reminder that winter is coming and we need to be ready. I don’t know about you, but I keep getting older every fall and need to make lists in order to remember all the things I want to do around the house: Disconnect all garden hoses from the outside faucets and store the hoses for the winter. Check all gutters for the accumulation of leaves and debris. Check doors and windows for weather stripping that needs to be replaced. Replace furnace filters and have a professional check the furnace for safety and efficient operation. Change batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and test for proper operation. Bring a load of firewood in and put it next to the fireplace, along with some fire starter. Locate the TV remote, put it next to my easy chair and be ready to watch the Redskins games.
