Casual, homey, yummy, big variety - fresh, varied breakfast buffet replenished often, yum bacon, sausage, delish quiches, eggs benedict, bagels/lox, light fluffy pancakes/waffles, fresh fruit salad, super baked goods. Groovin' music, bring family there all the time - even fresh-squeezed OJ and morning special drinks! Love it! ...read more

Babe's Mediterranean Bistro

For two years, I have tried every restaurant in Truro, P-town, Wellfleet, etc... and I have been systematically under-whelmed and disappointed. Even well-established and consistently-recommended restaurants have left me either unsatisfied, bemused or ragingly upset. That is, until I finally tried 'Babe's Mediterranean Bistro'. Which is, ironically, right down the street from me, but yet I'd been holding out for nearly three years. Stupid me. Unlike most "ethnic" restaurants, the food explodes with flavor without ever being greasy or heavy. I loved a trip to Turkey when I was in my 20's, but I remember the food being drowned in oil. These Turkish flavors are new to me, clean and amazing. I remember 'Muhammarah', but instead of an oily mess, their version is a well-defined, multi-level, palate-challenging amazement. We ordered one, and then another. That never happens. The Algerian chicken was amazing, and so was the Turkish Lamb kebab. We went back the next night to try the Armenian cur ...read more

J.P's recently underwent a massive renovation. We liked the cozy little room that housed JP's for years. We had stopped going there because we'd tried everything on their menu, and I was getting a little tired of Pork with apples and goat cheese ( a nice dish, but how many times..?) . We were excited when the renovated, sparkling, clean, modern, multi-leveled new JP's opened up - only to have our excitement dashed when handed the menu: it was exactly the same ! No exciting new additions - the same basic dishes we'd tried a dozen times before. I ordered a special on the menu - Chicken Piccata. What arrived bore no resemblance to Chicken Piccata - it was grilled, overcooked, mealy, and flavored with BBQ sauce, with a few token Capers on the side. And yes, the new building design succeeded in reflecting all the sound, so the sonic ambiance was like that of a gymnasium. To be fair, I've heard JP's installed sound absorption panels to suction up some of the sound waves bouncing around the dining room. I hope in the future to be able to retract this negative review - but the last time we returned we were coolly told there was no seating available for our group of 8, even though we saw plenty of empty tables. ...read more

The Wicked Oyster

This lovely old decrepit building has reinvented itself. The bar is packed with a young and noisy crowd. The chef from the previous 2 years has left and unfortunately the food has slided downward. The staff can be pleasant but at times comes across as harried. Parking is difficult at best. It is quaint but unfortunately that isn't enough. ...read more

The old roadhouse is gone - replaced by a stunning new building which showcases Chef John Pontius (JP) food with wonderful ambiance. The new acoustical walls have completely solved the noise problem and the outdoor deck is perfect on a summer night. The food - as always - remains stellar and perhaps the best on the Cape. The prices are moderate with most entrees under $20. The staff makes you feel as if you are family and are always helpful and attentive. and the hostess has her pulse on the entire operation. to insure quality service. This is a not to miss restaurant. They have a call ahead service which limits your wait but the new bar and great bartender make even a wait seem fun. ...read more

Finely JP's is an all-around-good place. The menu offers something for everyone, and I had a very hard time deciding between traditional chowder, the special cream of asparagus soup, and mushroom ravioli. But the succulent, creamy baked oysters Bienville, the fresh Wellfleet oysters, and the simple, fresh garden salad started the night off right. JP's offered a diverse wine menu that included a good selection of wines by the glass and half bottles. The pecan-crusted sole was prepared very basically, just pan-friend and no-nonsense, but so flavorful and satisfying. The shrimp and capellini was so light, so that the flavor of the shrimp and fresh herbs could shine through. Dessert was good, not great. The chocolate layer cake seemed pretty average compared to the rest of the meal. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The atmosphere is relaxing and understated, but the high ceilings make it noisy, even on a quieter night. Overall, I highly recommend it. ...read more
