With all of the economic problems this year, I expect there will be a lot of questions about taxes and deductions. I will be attending some update seminars in the near future and will blog to keep all of you informed when I have some concrete information. Right now, everything is questionable because changes could occur at any time. Expect a new blog in early December, but for the time being there are some things you can do to prepare . 1. If you itemize your deductions, try to make sure that you pay your state tax final estimate before the end of the year. It will be allowed as a deduction on your federal return. 2. If you have large medical bills (that total more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income) pay any outstanding medical bills prior to the end of the year. 3. If you have a business, and could use new equipment, try to purchase it before the end of the year. 4. Pay any outstanding bills for your business before the end of the year. 5. If you are planning on doing work for a customer towards the end of the year, put off completing it and billing for it until after the new year.(If your client is not in a hurry) 6. Lastly, and most important contribute what you can to your retirement plans. This is your best method of saving on taxes, and putting the money aside for your future. ...read more
