The true understanding of what childhood trauma issues "feel" like; the extreme pain and suffering, can only truly be understood by those who suffer from this legacy. Others,including the expert professionals, may try to grasp bits and pieces of the mental anguish but the understanding is fleeting, especially around the power of triggers; triggers which can be like daggers to the person suffering. It is an understanding only people with true trauma histories can comprehend and believe. They understand the overwhelming power of triggers and how careful one needs to act in order to avoid triggering a person with serious trauma issues. It just comes naturally to those of us who suffer from this legacy of childhood abuse, abandonment, and betrayal.
