Morgan City is located in St. Martin and St. Mary parishes, Louisiana and is a part of the Lafayette metro area on the banks of the Atchafalaya River. The city was originally called Tiger Island because of a type of wild cat spotted here. The city's name was changed in honor of rail and steamship magnate Charles Morgan. Centerville High School and Morgan City High School both sever Morgan City. Large companies include St. Martin Oil and Gas and Symergy Fluids. Morgan City hosts the annual Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival. Attractions include the International Petroleum Museum and Exposition, Lake End Park, and Lake Palourde.
