Converse, named for Col. James Converse, is located in Sabine Parish, Louisiana. Major attractions within minutes of Converse include the Mansfield State Historic Site, which commemorates Civil War battles at Mansfield and Pleasant Hill and has a 3/4-mile Battlefield Trail, living history events, exhibits, battle reenactments, interpretive programs, musket demonstrations and candlelight tours and the Rebel State Historic Site, which commemorates the history and culture of northwestern Louisiana and has two trails, a museum, an amphitheater and picnic areas. Converse High School, with grades PK to 12, is located here. One of the best places to visit when you are in Converse is the nearby, more than 900-acre North Toledo Bend State Park, located about 40 minutes away and where you can enjoy swimming in an Olympic-size pool, camping, boating, canoeing, paddle boating, hiking, picnicking and fishing.
