An alternative school in Hammond, St. Amant Academy, was nationally honored in 2006 by National Community Action Foundation for being an outstanding innovative work in fighting poverty. It was closed by Quad Area Community Action Agency after the death of its founder, Winnie St. Amant Sibley. But the school has survived by being re-opened by Kitty Sibley Morrison, daughter of Ms. Winnie, under the name Springfield Preparatory School! That is NOT newsworthy, perhaps.\n\nHere's what is!\n\nSPS has two families who really stand out - families seeking to escape the quicksand of poverty through education. The graduation ceremony is this Saturday morning at 11 am at the Christian Life Assembly of God in Hammond, Louisiana. Here are a few facts about the awesome families who shine this Saturday.\n\n1. The Aaron Brown Family of Reserve, Louisiana, have TEN members of their family from 50 year old father down to the 17 year old daughter. He will be cartwheeling down the aisle. They sacrificed Christmas presents this year to pay their fees to complete their first educational milestone of high school diploma. They all have plans for post-secondary studies.\n\n2.
