Commonwealth Home Inspections

5.0

By Bobbie L at Customer Lob

Commonwealth Home Inspections did a home inspection for me and if it wasn't for Kenny, I would have been stuck with a bad house. He really was a lifesaver. I thought he was very professional, explained things as he went, and pointed things out to me. I thought the final report was absolutely excellent in how detailed it was. It was an absolutely good experience and I would highly recommend him. I plan on using him for my next home. ...read more

Commonwealth Home Inspections

5.0

By Delma Y at Customer Lob

We are seasoned homeowners and DIY'ers who have owned and renovated at least 4 homes. Yet, at a recent inspection of a house on which we have a contract, Kenny Martin pointed out many defects that we would not have noticed. We have worked with other inspectors who were much less thorough and seemingly less knowledgeable. One of the best things about the inspection by Kenny is the detailed report which he provided. If we close on this house, we will use the report as a working document and check off the items one by one as they are corrected - either by ourselves or by professionals. Kenny is knowledgeable, professional, and a good communicator. We will definitely recommend Kenny Martin to anyone who needs a home inspection. ...read more

Is it Algae or Bacteria growing on your roof/

Some facts on the "Black Streaks on your roof".Gloeocapsamagmais a species of cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are an ancient line of photosynthesizing bacteria, which photolyze water generating oxygen gas. Ancient cyanobacteria were ancestral to the chloroplasts of all plants on earth. Gloeocapsa magmahas gained notoriety in the Southeastern U.S. which is quickly spreading throughout the Midwest. This particular type of cyanobacteria is responsible for creating unattractive black stains and/or streaks on roofs. The bacteria accumulate over time; this accumulation begins to show the black stains as the cyanobacteria develop their dark and hard UV-protective outer coating. The main reasons for the rapid spread and noticeability of these cyanobacteria are thought to be: 1. Rising humidity and temperatures combined with more and more bacteria spores promotes their spread with these favorable conditions. 2. Fiberglass shingles (the most commonly seen amongst today's residential homes) are made with limestone as a filler (in the asphalt). These shingles hold moisture and organic "bacteria food" material longer (especially on the North-side in the Midwest) than the paper/asphalt/ceramic shingles of 20+ years ago. Additionally, these particular algae enjoy the limestone as a food source. Once the bacteria have become noticeable, the stains will continue to worsen year to year. There is debate over the actual harmfulness of this particular bacteria to roofs, as there is little supportive scientific research. However, most "experts" within the subject area conclude the bacteria to be harmful, if left untreated, as the growth holds moisture within shingles causing premature aging, rotting, and/or granule loss. Note: Gloeocapsa magmamay resemble "algae" in that they are green, but in fact cyanobacteria are bacteria whereas algaeare single-celled eukaryotes (cells with nuclei) that are closely related to plants.Call 502-773-1730 for removal of this problem---GUARANTEED! ...read more

Whats in the name of a business?

Hopefully by now, you know that using a pressure washer on the roof of your home is totally wrong. Not only does it void the warranty on your shingles, it can and usually does, a vast amount of damage by blowing a large amount of the granules off the shingles, which shortens their life cycle. Using a pressure washer also requires that the person walk all over your roof while using this equipment. DO NOT allow anyone on your roof with a pressure washer unless you have $6K--$!0k for a roof replacement. Now consider this; If the roof cleaning company you are talking to about cleaning your roof has "Pressure Washer, Pressure Washing" in its name in any form or fashion, are they to be trusted to not use this equipment on your roof? What if they claim to be "Certified", but can not produce any documentation that they are in fact "Certified"?  Are you going to believe their stories, or look for a different contractor that has the proper documentation and equipment to perform the service correctly, and with a warranty? To solve this problem and have NO worries about how your roof will look, just contact Qwik Roof Cleaners, Louisville Kentucky for a free no-obligation quote on your Certified, Guaranteed, Roof Cleaning for your home.
