How To Clean Your Ink Cartridge
Quite often when an ink cartridge has not been used for a while, it will become clogged. Indications of this are missing lines, faint print, or blank pages. As long as your ink cartridge has the print head built in, such as is the case with Hewlett Packard, the process is easy. This process will not work with Brother or Epson because the print head is not a user serviceable item and is not part of the ink cartridge. Take a paper towel and fold it twice in the same direction. You should now have a strip about two inches wide. Using distilled water, or at least purifed, sprinkle liberally on one end of the paper towell. Now take the affected ink cartridge and press it down print head first onto the paper towell. Hold for at least three seconds. Repeat this step five or six more times slowly working your way down the paper towell as you go. You will notice that as you move along, the ink spot on the towel will begin to take on a distinct shape. For color cartridges you will see each color (cyan, magenta, and yellow) in a very narrow 3 bar pattern. On black cartridges the pattern will be a little wider. The pattern, whether black or color, should not have any gaps. If it does, repeat the entire process. If it still has voids in the bar, you may need to have the ink cartridge replaced. When you are done reinstall the ink cartridge and print a test page. If everything looks good, then congratulations are in order. Here are a couple of things you should never do because they will do irrepairable harm to your cartridge. 1) Never use a chemical on your ink cartridge. 2) Never rub or wipe the bottom of your ink cartridge. 3) Never use tap water.
