OK, so I get this eMail from a marketing company to join a Webinar March 6th, on the following topic: "The Practice Formerly Known As SEO" So it kind of peaked my interest because once again I'm thinking, here's another slick marketing company trying to get you to buy their services by making you think something out there in Google land has dramatically changed, and you'd better get on board. After reading the details of the Webinar, I'm pretty sure they are providing SEO services, they just want to catch people with a different way of thinking about SEO and make you feel you have to use them. Here's the main topics of the Webinar on their eMail invite.... Here's what you need to know about SEO: Most of the previously, widely accepted SEO practices will now get you into trouble (if they haven't already). "Link Building" isn't something you should be doing. "Audience Building" IS what you should be doing. So I read this synopsis and immediately say, NO NO NO, stop telling just part of the picture. Stop confusing business owners. It's OK to talk about "Audience Building" as a component of SEO, but SEO still exists, and there isn't some dramatic shift in what it takes to show up on the first page in Google. Here's another blog post about what it takes to get your Kansas City Web design to the first page of Google if you're interested. Folks, SEO is exactly what the term means. Search Engine Optimization. How are your "optimizing" your business marketing efforts to get to the first page of Google. It means, what are you doing, as a business owner in Overland Park, Kansas to make it so your Web site shows up on the first page of Google? You must "optimize" your efforts to show up in Google. Hence, there's a reason why it's call SEO, not Audience Building! So let's talk for a bit about "Audience Building". Yes Audience building is important to your SEO efforts. Audience building means. What are you doing on the Internet to tell people you are the greatest thing since sliced bread for the Key Words you want to show up in Google for. What are you doing on the Internet to convince Google you are an "expert" in the topic/keywords you want to be showing up for. But folks, it all ties back to the central point of reference for your business on the Internet. That central point being - Your Web site. If you are an attorney in Kansas City, and you want to be found on the first page of Google for Adoption Lawyer Kansas City. Then those exact words had better be on your Web site. A lot! You'd better be blogging about adoption topics on your Web site. You'd better be coming up with a way to be known all over the Internet, besides your Web site, for the fact that you are the best adoption lawyer in Kansas City. Other people on the Internet should be telling people all about your business. Hopefully, they are sending those people to your Web site to check you out. Or, sending them to your social sites, which of course are linked to your Web site. But hear this. If your Web site isn't the core place, and it isn't optimized for "Adoption Lawyer Kansas City", you will struggle to get to the first page of Google for those Key Words. Google is all about a consistent message out on the Internet, and they are rewarding those who are consistent and key word focused. So business owners in Olathe, Kansas with an awesome Web design that you want to show up no the first page of Google. 100 percent understand that SEO is primary to your efforts. Don't be confused by people selling "Audience Building" services. As I've always said. If you are business owner, you must be dedicated to learning to get to, and stay on the top of a Google search result screen.
